The self titled debut album from Weezercommonly referred to as the Blue Albumwas released in May 1994. Lead singer Rivers Cuomo was responsible for a good majority of the arrangements and compositions of the album. The songs touched on themes such as social awkwardness, being outsiders, family issues and more.... It was produced by Cars Front-man, Ric Ocasek. The album broke Weezer into the mainstream and featured the singles Say It Ain’t So, Undone The Sweater Song and of course Buddy Holly. It peaked at #16 on the US Billboard Charts. The classic Buddy Holly video showcased the band performing at Arnold’s Drive-In from the 1970’s TV show Happy Days and uniquely incorporated footage from show. It won 4 MTV Video Music Awards in 1995, including Best Breakthrough Video and Best Alternative Video and was nominated for Video of the Year. The album has sold over 15 million copies worldwide and is on many best of lists, including #294 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums list.
