When I was buying a tin at one of our flea markets maybe three years ago, the vendor said Oh, I didn’t know you collected tins. Well, I don’t really I answered...liar liar, pants on fire! Almost all the tins I’d picked up to that point were green (my favourite colour) so I guess I didn’t really consider myself so much a tin collector as a collector of all things vintage green. I started collecting dice a few years ago after finding a small bag of old Bakelite ones at a local flea market...after that, as often happens in the early stages of a collection, I was finding them literally everywhere! Some of the vintage green glass bottles I’ve accumulated here and there most of these were pharmaceutical bottles made by Owens Illinois in the 1940’s-60’s and are stamped Duraglas. One of my earliest collections is this vintage flatware with green Catalin handles, started when I found a partial set the darker ones many years ago at the @antiqueshowspdx Antique Expo in Portland, Oregon. For those who may not know, Catalin is a very early plastic, commonly called Bakelite, which was used extensively for all types of household items in the 1930’s-50’s. These also sparked my off-shoot collection of kitchen gadgets and utensils with red and green Catalin... handles, which I’ve shown here a few times.
