Due to these extraordinary times and the additional hardships Branch #1 has endured this year with Diane’s passing, our Remembrance Day will be looking differen...t this year. Ceremony There will be an abbreviated ceremony at the Cenotaph, Victory Gardens, on November 11th, beginning at 10:30am. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police will be acting as the Colour Party with the flags and the Rangers and Junior Canadian Rangers will handle the Cenotaph Guard and lay wreaths. There will also be audio of the ceremony playing at the outdoor setting. On November 11th, there will also be a 2-hour radio program about Remembrance Day on our local station, playing from 10am-noon. This includes the audio of our ceremony at the Cenotaph. People are not expected to attend the ceremony at the Cenotaph, they are expected to stay home. However, the public can still attend, although social distancing is required. It will be outdoors, without seating and without a reception. Attempts will also be made to have a live video stream of the ceremony so that we can share the event with the residents at McDonald Lodge and hopefully others. Wreaths Branch #1 will still be advertising the purchase of wreaths to local businesses this year. For those businesses that do purchase wreath(s), Branch #1 members will deliver poppy-covered wreath(s) to the business, and will replenish poppy supplies on the wreath as needed. The name of the sponsoring business will be read out on the radio during the Remembrance Day ceremony. Wreath costs are: Cross $30 Small wreath $45 Large wreath $75 Extra large wreath $100 Money from the wreath sales goes towards supporting veterans across Canada, with a small amount going towards keeping our local Legion up and running. If your business would like to purchase a wreath email John Mitchell (Mitch) at: [email protected] Poppies Poppy trays and donations boxes will not be provided to businesses around town this year; however, as mentioned above, poppies will be pinned to the wreaths and people can take them off these wreaths without donation. If someone still wants to donate to the Legion, they can make a cheque out to: Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 1 Dawson and mail the cheque to: Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 1, PO Box 38, Dawson City, YT, Y0B 1G0. Thank you, community of Dawson, for your continued support.

It is with great sadness that 34 Roland J. Groome RCACS announces the passing of our squadron's Deputy Commanding Officer, Captain Gary Saxby. Captain Saxby dedicated a significant part of his life to the cadet program having recently completed 42 years of service and his loss will have a significant impact on our community. He was a friend, a mentor and a colleague that will be dearly missed by many.
