I became homeless due to my alcoholic addition. I drank for 34 years; as a result I lost my house, my family, my job, my liberty. So that led to here; living on the streets. 541 greatly supports those living on the street. Back in March of '19, I met Robert and the staff who really helped me. I came here and I wasn't well. I was experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms from reducing my drinking. Now I don't drink so much alcohol. Not only did this place give me food, but they gave me a place to get healed. I love 541 because they are part of my recovery. 541 is much more than a place to grab breakfast at; it's a very powerful and effective conduit for community, engagement, and transformation. I love starting my day here calmly, in peace, stable and balanced. Because this environment is like that. 541 helped me get back to me. It's more important than ever that we do what we can to protect our neighbours with vulnerable immune systems, so we want to make it as easy as possible to do your part and get the flu shot! No appointment, no I.D., no health card, and we'll even reward you with a FREE COFFEE after!

[What don't people see about you at first?] I don't know if it's how I look or something. Sometimes people tell me, "when I first met you I didn't know how to take you." Maybe it's because I'm a little shy myself too. [What do they miss?] How big my heart is. How much I can be helpful, just in even talking. By the time I talk to them they realize who I am. You got to learn how to take everybody in their own time. Cuz everybody had their own issues and problems. Like I've been around here for years. You learn everybody individually in their own time. For example, every morning I look forward to this. Every morning Alan gives me this pack of tissue. Every morning I look forward to this tissue, cuz I know it's from Alan.
