Winter safety: Advice for parents and kids. As COVID-19 restrictions continue to tighten around the country, we continue to venture out doors more and more in efforts to keep ourselves and our families busy. Here are a few tips that will help keep parents and children safe while outside enjoying various winter activities. Ensure your children have proper supervision or establish a buddy system so that they are never outside alone. Consider keeping them indoors whenever ...the temperature or the wind chill is reported to be -27C (-16F) or lower. Check often to see that your child is warm and dry and that they are wearing the proper protective equipment for the activity they are participating in. Help children choose play areas with a warm shelter nearby (e.g., near home or a friend’s home).
