Returning to the kitchen mere minutes later I find the pot is ...red hot. As I lift it off the burner the stainless steel bottom delaminates and the molten aluminum core, as liquid as water, pours out. Wearing short pants, the molten aluminum thankfully misses my bare legs and feet, to splatter on the countertop and floor. Instantly a myriad of fires are ignited in the vinyl floor. The room quickly fills with smoke so dense it is hard to see fires I am trying to extinguish. The smoke is acrid and I am distracted by the loud blare of our adjacent hard-wired, smoke alarm. At the time, to us it seems a disaster. Contacting Intact house insurance, adjuster Dale Bobbitt is prompt to phone and calm our fears. He, in turn, contacts ABK Restoration Services. Ron Plamondon, ABK Project Manager, and Sabrina Van Haarlem, Assistant Project Manager (as well as Brittney Kneller) are soon in contact. They promptly schedule numerous trades people; carpenters, electrician, plumber. Restoration is soon underway. These trades people are all friendly, professional, and fastidious in preparing for floor and counter top installation, while protecting our home from adverse renovation impacts by installing floor protection and dust barrier. Trevor Rathjen, Flooring Consultant at Nufloors invites us to select replacement vinyl. He, in turn, schedules installation. Dean Witkowski, Kitchen Sales, Home Hardware invites us to select replacement counter top. He, in turn, orders a replacement. The restoration of our home is now complete. We are pleased with the result. Arising from this accident our initial fears have turned to gratitude. For their terrific work we would like to thank in particular: Dale Bobbitt Ron Plamondon Sabrina Van Haarlem Trevor Rathjen and sub-contractor Dean Witkowski and sub-contractors As well as the numerous ABK sub-trades.
