The building owners liked the simplicity and fast build time of a metal panel building, but they wanted lots natural daylight in their new expansion. We chose Solera because we were looking for a durabl...e, long lasting and high-performance solution that incorporated glare control, high insulation value and energy efficiency. The design goal of this project was to have natural daylight throughout the space, deep into the building’s core which can be tricky. The open floor plan project offered more than daylighting during the day time, at night the building glows during the winter months for a beautiful lantern effect. #BackToSchool Students have returned back to school at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. The five-story, 415,000 square foot building is perched along the shores of Lake Michigan, with views of Chicago’s skyline. It was designed by the Toronto-based architectural firm KPMB Architects to be a catalyst for creative and collaborative thinking. The design features a variety of learning and networking spaces, including a central atrium, a two-story auditori...um, classrooms, a conference center and a multitude of places to gather. After testing a number of different veils, illumination and thermal performance options, and consulting with a lighting expert, Solera made sense for this project for many reasons. Most importantly, it allowed us to diffuse the ample natural light, creating a soft glow throughout the building. The insulating value is also important, which contributes to the buildings platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, says architect, Graham Baxter. Laurentian University - Université Laurentienne, home of McEwen School of Architecture, a 55, 000 sq. ft. building located in Northeastern Ontario, in the charming city of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.... LGA architectural partners worked with the university on the design, to create an industrial feel of Canadian elements including, cross-laminated timber, steel, concrete and daylight. The architecture team wanted to create an optimum natural daylighted space free of hot spots and glare. So choosing the right product to deliver natural daylighting was important. LGA architectural partners selected Solera as their daylighting choice for its innovative and unique light diffusion properties, thermal performance and easy integration into the building's curtain wall system. Kirkwood Community College Recreation Center was the first of its kind on campus. A well-needed addition to this growing school, Neumann Monson Architects was chosen as Project Architect and Architectural Wall Systems as Glazier for this new-build project. Founding Partner and Principal, Kevin Monson says, the program was simple for the community college. They had no recreation center, only sports halls. This was their first multi-purpose building which encompassed a running... track, basketball courts, floor space for tennis and badminton, weight lifting, cardio area, aerobics space and more private spaces for faculty members. While selecting the daylighting product he revealed, nothing comes close to Solera’s performance, as other options don’t provide a non-yellowing guarantee or equal light distribution. We compared Solera to other product and glass options, however, Monson says Solera is so much better than insulating glass. Looks so good and it’s an attractive product that has great characteristics all wrapped into one product. Kirkwood College Recreation Center was very well received by clients and the public that uses the space says Monson.
