The Graston Technique was originally conceived by an amateur athlete who suffered a debilitating knee injury while water skiing. Frustrated at the lack of rehabilitation progress following surgery and conventional therapy. After consulting several healthcare professionals, he decided to apply his professional background in machining to create several instruments to treat his soft tissue injury. Using a cross-friction massage, which involves brushing or rubbing against the gr...ain of the scar tissue, the practitioner re-introduces small amounts of trauma to the affected area. In some cases, this process temporarily causes inflammation in the area, which in turn increases the rate and amount of blood flow in and around the area. The theory is that this process helps initiate and promote the healing process of the affected soft tissues. Experiencing early success on his own knee, he collaborated with medical and research personnel at Ball Memorial Hospital and Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., to fully develop a technique and a set of instruments. From this collaborative effort, Graston Technique therapy was born. This type of treatment is used as part of many treatment protocols used to treat a variety of injuries that we see at Alberta Spine and Sport.

Sometimes we are peoples' last resort... and they can't believe that our chiropractors were able to treat the cause of the problem when so many others could not! Calves are one of the most underappreciated muscles of our bodies. Unless they hurt, you might not think much about them, yet they are essential for most of our daily activities including standing, walking, running and of course, lifting weights. Amazing, Shaun is a godsend to me. Went from pain in my thumb, from a sprain 4 months ago, no sensation on my skin and the pain was so sharp I would get off work and cry for a half-hour. It hurt all the time! Only 3 sessions, so far, I have feeling again on the skin again and pain is a 5 to 6 from a 9-10!! Thank gosh for this talented man I know have feeling in the area. and pain has eased to a 5 to 6 ache ...... Their front staff is also incredible. so thank you for all you do ... blessed be!

Tight glutes can cause as much lower back discomfort as weak glutes can, so overtraining these muscles or working in occupations that requires prolonged sitting can lead to tightness in the lower back area. No equipment is necessary and can be included as part of your existing stretching routine. And if our other glute stretch exercise is too advanced this one can be done to gain mobility before moving on to the 'Glute Stretch with an Elevated Surface' (our Gold standard glute stretch)

Pain in the right or left side of your neck is usually nothing serious. It's often caused by muscle strain, poor sleeping position, or bad posture. Whether it is poor posture, working at a desk too long, a poor sleeping position or an injury caused by jerking your neck during exercise this stretch can help relieve some of that pain and tension. If you find that your neck is just not getting better especially after a fall, car accident, and sporting activity, where the muscles... and ligaments of the neck are forced to move outside of their normal range, you should consult a trusted practitioner. #aisst #yourgotoclinic #chiro #physio #massage #feelbetter #getbetter #youtube

Cupping therapy has been in practice since ancient times. To the ordinary person, it is a relatively new type of therapy. Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. This type of therapy is performed by our talented Massage Therapists and can be incorporated into your next treatment!

If you have ever walked into one of our treatment rooms and wondered ... what the heck have I gotten myself into after seeing these tools lying next to the treatment table, you are not alone. But be rest assured that these tools, although they look like medieval torture tools - they are not!! These instruments enable the treatment of scar tissue and fascial restrictions during rehabilitation that allows for faster rehabilitation and with greater success when the goal is res...toring range of motion, eliminating pain, and restoring normal function. Still not sure... check out our website or ask your practitioner at your next appointment.
