"Superclusters are about breaking down the silos and building a sense of community amongst those working in specific sectors so that they can share and meet the... needs that exist out there" That was one of the messages that Melissa O'Rourke, Innovation Ecosystem Manager for Canada's Ocean Supercluster shared with us in Episode 4 of our Happy to Be Here podcast when asked how Superclusters can help small start ups bridge "The Valley of Death" when scaling up. Innovosea has leveraged this opportunity to work with many others in the Ocean Supercluster, including researchers at the University of New Brunswick, to create a product that will fill a unique gap in technology. The local need is to track endangered Atlantic salmon and gather data to stabilize the population but the potential for this product is global.
