Bank of Canada keeps key interest rate target on hold at 1.25%

RRSP season is in full swing. If youre planning to put money into your RRSP, the contribution deadline is Thursday, March 1st. If this is your first time contributing to your RRSP, you just need all "account application" documents completed, plus your contribution cheque, post marked by, or on, March 1st. And remember, there is no rush to make your investment decision (on where to invest your RRSP) but you must have your contribution into your RRSP Trustee account by March 1 to apply to your 2017 tax return. There are many Trustee options (on where to hold your RRSP) so ask around.

The benchmark price for detached properties is $1,601,500. This represents an 8.3% increase from Jan 2017" "Apartment home sales reached 1,012 in Jan 2018, a 22.7% increase compared to the 825 sales in Jan 2017. This morning OSFI announced new mortgage qualifications as of January 1, 2018. These new rules will now impact those with uninsured mortgages (20% or greater down payment). Buyers will have to qualify at the bank benchmark rate of 2% higher than the contract rate (meaning if your 5-year fixed is 3.29% you will need to qualify at 5.29%). Fraser Institute: Stricter OSFI rules on mortgage lending will do more harm than good.
