Andy's House is a Resident and Family-centered, 24-hour care setting. It is funded 55% by the Ontario Ministry of Health and 45% by donations. Highly trained staff and volunteers provide specialized palliative care to residents who have no need or desire to die in the hospital. Andy's House officially opened its doors to patients in October 2020. Due to COVID-19 we were unable to welcome the public for a tour of this beautiful facility. Donna has served the health care needs of Muskokans for over 18 years. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her position at Hospice Muskoka. In a short amount of time Donna has fostered a culture of resilience and clinical excellence at Andy’s House. She encourages growth and collaboration across all disciplines. Always close by with a smile and words of support. The physical and spiritual wellbeing of Staff, Volunteers and Residents is always her top pri...ority. Andy's House has been able to diligently serve Residents and their families during COVID-19. This is in large part due to Donna's leadership and perseverance. Even though our visitor Policy is limited to 1 human visitor at a time, Nancy was able to have a meaningful visit with her husband Bill and their black lab Molly. Pets are family too!

And the winner is Staff and volunteers at Andy’s House put on their artistic caps to decorate Andy's House this Christmas. Hospice Muskoka challenged the team to create windows of snowflakes. It was a tough decision, but judge Janie Graham picked the stunning flake with butterflies as points, created by Administrative Assistant Kathleen Marsden-Butt! My dad has made the big trip today. Not the one we thought might happen a few weeks ago when he entered Andys House in Port Carling. He went there in a bad state. Frail, dehydrated, confused, scared, and defeated. Over the next short while Donna, Sarah, and the other staff and volunteers at the hospice took it upon themselves to make what we thought were his final days comfortable and safe. What happened next was amazing. A complete turn around to the point where he wasn`t a... candidate for hospice anymore and needed to go somewhere else. He was too healthy for hospice. Go figure. He is now in A retirement home and is beginning a new chapter of life. One that will see him receive scheduled meals, medicine, care, and interaction with people of his like. He will be safe and warm. We are fortunate that Andys House exists and I urge everyone to donate to this fantastic facility to keep it providing the necessary care to the people of Muskoka when they need it most.
