While the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, avian flu continues to wreak havoc on chicken farms across the world, causing captive bird lockdowns and mass culling. The overcrowded, unnatural and unsanitary conditions of intensive factory farms are the perfect breeding ground for pathogens and as long as factory farms remain open, the threat of these viruses, including zoonotic diseases will continue to rise. We must stop factory faming now, for the animals, for the planet and for... the longevity of the human species. https://sentientmedia.org/the-other-pandemic-avian-flu-is-/?
The regulations of Bill 156, The Security from Trespass and Protecting Food Safety Act, which was passed last summer in Ontario despite opposition by animal advocates, journalists and concerned citizens, have now come into effect. The Animal Protection Party of Canada is currently consulting with legal counsel to challenge this unconstitutional bill, that prohibits undercover investigations intended to reveal the cruel treatment of animals on farms, transport vehicles, and ...slaughterhouses. As our Party Leader Liz White says: "Let’s be clear: this kind of legislation is not about food safety. It is about keeping the public in the dark about how animals are raised and killed for food." There are countless reasons to ban the global trade on wildlife including the threat of zoonotic diseases, the threat to fragile ecosystems in which wildlife are stolen and this recent story out of Vancouver, where exotic birds were found deceased or clinging to life without being seized by government officials. Please write to your federal MP and ask them to ban the global trade of wildlife (including exotic species) in the interest of animal and human health. More inf...ormation to support this ban can be found on our blog post from February below https://www.animalprotectionparty.ca/zoonotic-diseases-ban/? https://bc.ctvnews.ca//shipment-of-live-toucans-parrots-th?
