Hello! Let's get to this weeks CREATURE FEATURE... Fumanchu aka Chewy! He is a one year old Nigerian weather. He was a bottle baby from our partner Stuckey Farms. Although I am supposed to just manage the babies and then GIVE THEM BACK! this never happened because I got too attached. He is an indoor and outdoor goat who loves cuddles. He follows us around the yard and is the best dog we have! Chewy comes to every event with us and is excited to come to the 2020 petting zoo season!

CREATURE FEATURE SEYMOUR I sit through a lot of auctions. Although I want to help every single one I am of limited resources. I do rescue a lot of animals, and often it doesnt take much to find them a new forever home. A new set of nails, some kindness, some groceries..... Seymour was different. The auctioneer called the end of the sale and most people were leaving. There was one donkey they found left at the back. So a handful of people and I sat to see. Someone led the saddest looking donkey in. his feet were too long, he had a grass belly with the bulgy neck.. he wasnt in terrible shape. the auctioneer tried to say he was 3 or 4. not likely.. but he radiated a cloud of sadness and despair. Well, que my bleeding heart. 50 dollars and a lift home bummed from a girlfriend with a trailer and Seymour came home. After checking his overall wellness I decided but his teeth he was old. real old. He tolerated handling, and lead well for a donkey. But he did not trust me. Someone somewhere BROKE this sweet old mans spirit. I'm not going to speculate about his abuse but he is healing here. It was almost a year before he made any sound. He no longer flinches when we walk up to him or handle him His feet neck and fur is grown back to "normal". Now, after three years this rockstar has friends in the animals here. He announces his dinner time and guests. He has been on TV, featured in a movie, and is a petting zoo favorite. The community has adopted him as one of their own, even when he escapes the fence and eats in the ditch along the road. Everyone knows and loves him. He has found a forever home and a soft safe place to be. This one is a permanent resident
