The Youth Ministry Sunday 2nd Collection is happening this weekend. Archbishop Miller has stated several times over the past few months: "The Church Never Stops". However, with the restrictions imposed on the parishes, we are facing financial challenges on all levels.... Annually, all parishes are asked to take up a second collection on the first Sunday of December. The purpose of this archdiocesan collection is to assist the work of the Ministries and Outreach Office in providing formation, training, and support for youth ministry. Parishes with active and intentional youth ministry receive a rebate from this collection. Thank you in advance for your support of such an important ministry in our archdiocese and for supporting your parish youth ministry.

We are pleased to announce that Faye McCreedy has taken over the role of interim Youth Ministry Coordinator in our Ministries and Outreach Office. Faye has been working for the Archdiocese of Vancouver since 2006 when she was hired as an admin assistant for the Youth Ministry Office. Since then, she has worked primarily in youth ministry, as well as serving at many archdiocesan events, both youth ministry related and not. Fittingly, she has recently added event consulting to her portfolio of work. Faye has also served as the parish youth ministry coordinator at her home parish of Immaculate Conception in Delta since 1999. She is married to husband Sean and together they have three children (Nicole 17, James 15, and Nathan 11).

This week, Erwin Fung left the Archdiocese of Vancouver to move to London, Ontario along with his wife Alex and their two children Elijah and Gioia. Alex will be starting a new job in the Diocese of London. As well they will have the added bonus of living closer to Alex’s family. Erwin has faithfully served as our Coordinator for Youth Ministry since April 2013, when he moved here from Edmonton. One of Erwin’s most notable accomplishments here has been his work with Search...ing in the Spirit (our post-Confirmation training event). Over the past seven years, he has discipled, trained, and accompanied dozens of young leaders. Erwin has also played a prominent role in two of our biggest annual youth events: Spirit Day and Freedom. As well, he has worked hard to provide timely training and consulting for our youth ministry leaders. Erwin also served on many archdiocesan committees and was a mainstay on numerous national committees and working groups. We are most appreciative of his dedicated and faithful service to our archdiocese and to all of the youth and youth ministry leaders he has ministered to and with. Join us in praying for a safe and successful transition for Erwin, Alex, Elijah, and Gioia.

As you may be aware, Richie Aldaba has taken over the role of Young Adult Ministry Coordinator in our Ministries and Outreach Office. Richie has many years of youth ministry and young adult ministry experience through his service with CFC-Youth and his studies at St. Michael's Abbey in Southern California. Richie will add young adult ministry to a portfolio that already includes Movements, Men's Ministry, and Adult Faith Formation. He has been working for the Archdiocese of Vancouver since February 2019. We thank Matthew Martin for his service as the Youth Adult Ministry Coordinator for the past two years. Thankfully, Matthew is staying in the RCAV family; he is working with our IT Department on database-related projects for the Archdiocese.

Congratulations to our 2020 Youth Ministry Leadership Bursary winners: Donovan Magel of Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School (and Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Port Coquitlam) and Marian Manapat of Little Flower Academy (and St. Andrew Parish in Vancouver). Donovan will be taking Mechatronics System Engineering at Simon Fraser University’s Surrey campus, while Marian will be taking Arts One in the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Arts.
