High five! High fives with Max and Samkha may look cute, but did you know this is a behaviour that's trained for care purposes?! When these cats give us a high five, it allows their care teams to take a good look at their paws, and in Samkha the tiger's case, his belly. As an older gentleman, Max the cougar does not stand up on two feet like Samkha, but this behaviour still offers an opportunity for a general body check.

We just adore Carlita the kinkajou! Carlita is one of the Zoo’s most elusive residents, as she’s nocturnal and spends most of her day snoozing. The kinkajou is an adorable arboreal species with a five inch long tongue. They primarily eat fruit and nectar and are important seed and pollen dispersers in the wild! ... photo captured by animal care professional Maggie See more

Who who whooo are they? They are great horned owls! These beautiful birds were spotted and photographed by Park & Zoo volunteer, Don Stephens, along the Park river trails near the footbridge. Did you know...... Great horned owls can be spotted in the Park in areas with mature trees. Many Park visitors will miss seeing these owls as they are nocturnal and tough to see during the day. Great horned owls do not build their own nests! They mainly reuse nests of other animals like red-tailed hawks, crows, and squirrels. The great horned owl is the second-largest owl in Canada, after the snowy owl. These owls are found across the Americas, from the tip of South America to the Arctic coast in Alaska, but not in the Tundra or Amazon Basin. These owls are powerful hunters that eat anything from mammals, to other birds.

We thought the signs were pretty clear, Baffin The rules may not apply if you’re a polar bear, but assuming you’re not a polar bear, they are in place to help keep you, as well as our staff, volunteers, and animals healthy and safe! As a large, mainly outdoor attraction there is plenty of space to remain physically distanced from other visitors.... Please respect all signs and floor markers that encourage physical distancing and discourage contact with surfaces like exhibit glass. Please follow our recommended path of travel. Don’t forget your mask! Masks are mandatory in indoor spaces. Get your tickets online in advance to avoid waiting in line and to reduce contact with staff. We can’t wait to see you at the Zoo!
