Macular Degeneration is a type of vision loss that impacts central vision by deteriorating the MACULA which is in charge of seeing detail in the middle of our visual field. It can progress fast or slow and doesn’t impact peripheral vision. . It’s the most common cause of poor vision in people over 60 and accounts for 90% of new cases of legal blindness in Canada. . The dry type is most common and is due to thinning of the macula and progresses slowly vs the wet type ...which is caused by abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage.
