Great feature story by Kourtnie Rodney-Brown on the @azehnaproject on the Passive Buildings Canada website! Thank you for the feature and your passion for #passivehouse https://www.passivebuildings.ca/articles/azehna-means-give-back-aiming-for-the-living-building-challenge

Another clip from the upcoming documentary on the @azehnaproject by @in_balance_productions, love the aerial drone clips. Some of this footage is from quite a while back of course but offers some cool before/after contrasts. #nanaimopassivehouse #azehnaproject

Front bumpout on the @azehnaproject finally complete and ready for climbing. Big hit with the kids (and equally with the big kids). Thanks to Michael and Sid from @k2stonevi for such beautiful, island-quarried stone! we intentionally let some of the stone hang slightly proud on this wall to double as a climbing wall which we reckon is about a 5.10-5.11. #lovewhereyoulive #livingbuildingchallenge #houserockclimbing #builderclimbers #climbyourhouse @ Nanaimo, British Columbia

Starting on the feature walls on the @azehnaproject in the AirBnb suite and the main house, using some absolutely beautiful reclaimed old growth Douglas Fir full of character. Stay tuned for the finish photos... #biophilicdesign #livingbuildingchallenge @ Nanaimo, British Columbia

Our reclaimed Fir stairs on the @azehnaproject are finally going in after a lot of detailed work in the shop milling, planing, laminating and finessing these 80yr railway trestle timbers into this beautiful open riser staircase. It isn’t always the cheapest, most economic option to repurpose reclaimed material but when you put the time in, the end product really shines. Very happy with how these have turned out and can’t wait to see the glass go in and surrounding feature wall! Stay tuned for more on this! #reclaimedwood #reclaimnature @ Nanaimo, British Columbia

Upstairs bathroom nearing completion!

Azehna Project 01.08.2020

Bathrooms all fully waterproofed in shower/tub surrounds with Schluter Kirdy and ready for tile. Floors have Schluter’s Ditra uncoupling membrane and Ditra-Heat cable under tile which will serve as the only heat source in this super insulated, Passive House project, other than body heat and sunshine. And we’ll technically this is also powered by the sun as it and all loads for the house are run off the rooftop solar PV array. The Ditra heat is run throughout the en-suite bath...room and also on the steam shower’s floor. Big shoutout and thanks to the team at @schlutersystemsna for your involvement in and support for the project and the site visit! Schluter heat systems and waterproofing layers act as a continuation and complement of the careful attention to detail with the high performance air barrier and WRB membranes on the exterior. All our Passive House projects will be using your product line as part of achieving each home’s very high performance goals! See more

We are ecstatic seeing the quality, craftsmanship, and talent from the crew at @southshorecabinetry with stunning kitchen cabinets going in this week! Using sustainable, FSC-certified, formaldehyde-free veneers by Decospan, the Smoked Arabica Oak is simply stunning!! It’s incredible to walk into a new home with cabinetry going in and yet smell fresh air, with not the slightest toxins from laquers and formaldehydes! Thanks Korey and team at @southshorecabinetry! Can’t wait to see the finished product! #livingbuildingchallenge #sustainabledesign

Happy Earth Day from the @azehnaproject. It’s a day for us to reflect on the intention behind doing what we do. Our commitment as a company is to build only sustainable, net zero, passive house buildings that give back more than they take and consume. #passivehouse #livingbuildingchallenge

Black on black solar panels by @shiftenergygroup. Black is the new green. #netpositive #zerocarbon #passivehouse

Azehna Project 26.03.2020

Solar panels all hooked up thanks to Tim, Colin and the outstanding crew at @shiftenergygroup, which will make the new house fully net positive meaning it will generate more energy (via solar) than all the energy used by the house. Goodbye hydro bills, hello hydro paycheque. #givemorethanyoutake #passivehouse #livingbuildingchallenge #nanaimopassivehouse @azehnaproject #livingsustainably @ Nanaimo, British Columbia
