Today is Emancipation Day! Every year on August 1, we celebrate the abolition of slavery in Barbados During your visit to the island, you may spot the striki...ng Emancipation Statue along the ABC Highway. Featuring a sculpture of Bussa, one of our National Heroes, this statue symbolises breaking the chains of slavery, and was unveiled in 1985 to commemorate of the 150th anniversary of Emancipation. #LoveBarbados #EmancipationDay See more

HIGH COMMISSION OF BARBADOS, OTTAWA ADOPT A FAMILY PROGRAMME Due to the demand for assistance as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, those within the diaspora ar...e asked to kindly donate, if possible, to the Adopt A Family Programme fund to further facilitate the expansion of its outreach and projects. This programme essentially ensures qualifying families will receive payments of $600 BDS for 3-4 months, to meet essential and relevant needs. An account has subsequently been set up at CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, Broad Street, to allow deposits to account number 1001193982. Donors are then expected to email [email protected], advising of the deposit. Your kindness and generosity can ensure that government’s initiative reaches a wider reach of deserving Barbadian families, to ensure the impact of COVID-19 is as minimal as it can possibly be during this extended crisis. The primary goal of 1500 families is being aimed at 2500 as the need for assistance across the island continues to grow during these challenging times. All donations are greatly welcomed and appreciated! Thanks for your continued support in ensuring a better Barbados for all! See more

Barbados is offering safeport to many of the cruise ships that are currently weathering the Corona virus storm. Carnival Freedom was anchored offshore recently ...so we took the opportunity to take some shots of the ship. Launched in 2006 and operated by Carnival Cruise Line it is 290m long and can carry just under 3,000 passengers. We hope to see this beautiful boat back on our shores in happier times soon!
Artists from around the Caribbean came together to create this inspiring song as we grapple with the effects of the global pandemic. While we’re all apart, we’re still together, and We Got This!
