It's been a rough few years for restauranteurs. Most people who own a business are doing so in the hopes that not only do they earn income, but also they are building up something of value. So all of these eat away at a restauranteur's ability to make money, which also reduces the value of their business which might have been their retirement plan (transfer, sale, etc...). This is why it makes it all the more amazing that all of the restaurants that we barter with over the past 2 years are still in business, still making amazing food for Regina residents, still doing everything they can to keep their employees earning a living as we come out of the worst year in most of our lifetimes. So today as I processed over $4000 worth of snow removal bills for December and January, I realized that the weather is now negatively affecting these businesses further. Even in challenging times like this, there are people who are generously supporting others! The back story: Earlier this year, Adam and Gavin (BarterPay COO) had connected to discuss offering LumiQ memberships on the BarterPay platform. While Adam liked the idea, their team was being pulled in many directions and didn’t feel they had bandwidth to add bartering to the mix. (we can agree to disagree ) Then COVID hit and they both focused on other things, but stayed in touch. As it was nearing the end of October, Adam let Gavin know that they still weren’t ready to make the leap into fully joining the BarterPay system. So Gavin asked him, what about donating a couple of memberships to our foundation, after all the incremental cost of adding a user is low and we have lots of CPAs who own businesses that have had a tough year.
