Birth at home is far less complicated than we think! Thank you for speaking to this, Clara! Hearing this from clients makes my heart break for them and opens up so many discussions of discovery for both! ... I find that usually it's the simplest of things like their partner is simply worried about a mess or the what if's if something "goes wrong". Being able to validate those feelings and informing them on what home birth actually looks like, versus what they see in movies is usually the first step. Most of the time, home birth is the most peaceful and safest thing possible. We are mammals after all.

The language in pregnancy and birth needs an overhaul and Katrina at Cedar Sisters Doula Care has delicately put the words onto paper today. "Nobody is doing internal exams on the birthing dog, inserting their fingers to check if her cervix is opening to allow the puppies to pass through. WE JUST LET THE DOG GIVE BIRTH." "Change begins with you. If any of these alternative terminologies feels right for you, please take them on, and insist that others use YOUR preferred ...language when talking about YOUR body."

I have recently sent a few clients to this circle and they have had really great experiences. Feel free to share if you feel others in your circle could benefit.

Calling all new and established birth workers! Are you a newer doula who wants to learn from more experienced in the field? Are you a birth worker in a smaller... or rural community? Maybe you’re seeking mentorship and a chance to connect regularly with a community of like-minded individuals. Or, perhaps you are not currently practicing birth work but welcome fresh ideas to keep you inspired in moving forward in your purpose and work. Welcome to that community! Transforming Birth Luminaries is composed of individuals who believe in the Transforming Birth community. It’s a membership-based subscription model community where space is built for people, families, birth workers and energy workers to connect, heal and advocate. It’s one that is committed to a world in which we experience resonance, love, sovereignty, and self-expression. Within this community, we are transforming conception, pregnancy, birth and postpartum as a sacred crucible in creating this world, while along the way restoring us to our inherent nature of being whole, complete, unique, and with limitless potential. This community (and our planet) needs more people like YOU - luminaries who give light and inspire others - Nurses, Doulas, Midwives, Chiropractors, Energy Workers, Massage Therapists, Lactation Consultants, Childbirth Educators, and more. In return for joining our community, we’ll provide you with the connection, inspiration, and purpose you may be seeking. This community has space for us to do that. We meet virtually on Zoom every Friday morning. The purpose of these weekly calls is to allow us to elevate our own life and how we participate in relationships and take these discussions out into the birth world. After all, we are here to Connect-Heal-Advocate. https://www.crowningglorydoula.ca/group-coaching

After becoming a young mom at 18, Tania started supporting other young moms in their own journeys, but it wasn’t until many years later, after a friend’s birth,... that she realized she was a Doula all along. After a phone call the very next day with Gloria Lemay, she started her training with her and @jessicaaustinchildbirth to become a Wise Woman’s Way of Birth Doula. Since, she has certified with midwife Charlene Campbell in Childbirth Emergency Response Training, and has most recently taken the @motherwitdoulacare Postpartum training with @reverend_doula and is working towards completing her certification, currently. She now has three children of her own (with 19.5 years between the first and second, now 25, 6 & 3 next month,) works as a volunteer Child Passenger Safety Technician alongside Holly Choi at Safe Beginnings First Aid and Janna Bakla CPST, and volunteers her time in the community of North Vancouver as much as life allows it. @northvansinglemomstea being one of those volunteer gigs, having been a single mom herself for 10 years prior to meeting her husband, it is something very close to her heart. Tania believes that our role as Doulas in pregnancy and beyond has great importance to the future of all growing families. Her biggest passion in this work is to ensure that her clients have enough information and education to make the sometimes difficult decisions they need to make throughout their pregnancies and birth of their babies. Tania says that her favourite part of the work we do is supporting the instinctual power within every birthing person and seeing them witness themselves in that power as they birth their babies.

A great story of an unexpected vehicle birth! Only, they really could have left the cord alone.
