Did anyone warn you about fundal massages? No one warned me and when my nurse did the first one, I was like, "what is this fresh hell??" So what is a fund...al massage anyways? It is when your OB, midwife or nurse vigorously rubs down on your fundus (the top of your uterus) after your baby is born to cause your uterus to contract and clamp down on where your placenta was attached so you don't bleed out. They do this every 15 minutes or so for the first couple of hours until your bleeding is slowed down. Now you know. See more

I am working lots right now in my role as a first responder... however I would like to offer up pay-what-you-can virtual birth planning services (and possibly even virtual labour support via facetime/phone/Skype/text) to a few new parents who may be feeling *especially* vulnerable about this on a case-by-case basis. Just inbox me. For example if you know a birthing person who does not identify with the term expectant mother, and for whom these Covid-19 limitations are espec...ially scary, have them inbox me. I’m by no means an expert in gender issues (nor does that have to be the focus of this pay-what-you-can idea). It’s just that the overt heteronormativity of birth in general has me thinking of our community’s most vulnerable new parents. This is what started a virtual pay-what-you-can idea about 5 minutes ago. It’s the least I can do. If you know a birthing person who’s intended birth partner is ill and birth is imminent? Inbox me. I could never replace a chosen birth partner in the history and bond they have with the birthing person, but having a tiny bit of ownership in creating a backup plan can help a birthing person feel empowered. I am probably the most part-time/casual Doula that still considers themselves active. I have mostly been lurking on the fringes of the birth world, doing my first responder thing. As such, I don’t have a single client in March/April/May - so I can make some time. Dear Pregnant People...

We attended our Doula training together in 2017! Welcome to Halifax Reb Rose (Addenda) I think there is lots of room for improvement in the heteronormative-dominated birth environment; I can’t wait to see all the wonderful things you’ll do!

In all seriousness, hope everyone is ok! Driving home from night shift at 4:30am I felt pretty lucky to have only a brief power outage at our house, with our kiddos staying with the very capable and loving Auntie @kathleenforward xx

There's something significant about seeing 25,000 blank paper hearts, knowing they will soon hold the names of our beloved babies, who are not alive. There's al...so something so sweet about our destination city sending a handwritten card to welcome us. Every day I handwrite the names of our babies, and every year we release these hearts in a different way. It is FREE to include your babies' names, and if you're able, free to attend. Oct 10 - Old London Bridge, Lake Havasu Oct 11 - Shoshone Point, Grand Canyon --- You can share your babies names here in this thread, or at the Stillbirthday Hearts Release page. On the Stillbirthday Hearts Release page, you'll see our Baby Name Book (with all kinds of helpful info too) at this link: https://www.facebook.com/HeartsRelease/ Baby Name Book: https://www.facebook.com/notes/stillbirthday-hearts-release/2019-hearts-release-baby-name-book/329619284260142/
