Bluffer’s Park I am truly saddened by the tragic loss of lives at Bluffer’s Park this past weekend. My deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to the f...amilies as they deal with this unimaginable loss. While we learn more about the events and as we gather facts, I would like to remind the public the importance of water safety and that even strong swimmers can run into trouble as water conditions can change quickly on the lake. Given that lifeguard supervision is determined by peak usage hours but more importantly based upon where visibility allows lifeguards to properly monitor and supervise swimmers, swimming without supervision or outside of designated swim areas is not recommended and is warned by appropriate signage. I am continuing to work with Parks, Forestry and Recreation staff on any additional safety improvements that can be implemented, including more signage. Amidst the tragedies, I would also like to acknowledge the act of heroism by two individuals that resulted in saving a young boy's life. Thank you to the Marine Unit, Firefighters, Paramedics, Helicopter Rescue, Police, Parks Staff and volunteers, all of whom have been deeply affected and whose efforts were also both selfless and heroic.

Once again this weekend, there will be a towing blitz on side streets such as Larwood Boulevard, Gradwell Drive and St. Quentin Avenue. Special constables will ...also be deployed to assist with expanded parking enforcement efforts. Toronto Police are on site today, tomorrow and Sunday to support flow of traffic and compliance with previously established parking restrictions. Solid Waste staff have also conducted clean ups each morning, beginning as early as 5:30 am, in a concerted effort to keep up with the increased volume of litter. I am continuing to follow this situation closely by leading meetings with City staff on a weekly basis, as I endeavour to restore Bluffers Park to a safe and enjoyable space for both local residents and park guests alike.

Bluffer's Park Tag and Tow Blitz this Weekend On July 6th, I held an emergency meeting with senior staff from Toronto Police Services, Parks, Transportation, So...lid Waste, Parking Enforcement and By-Law divisions to discuss the implementation of further measures in and around Bluffers Park. To begin, there will be a towing blitz this coming weekend on side streets such as Larwood Boulevard, Gradwell Drive and St. Quentin Avenue. Special constables will also be deployed to assist with expanded parking enforcement efforts. So far, the Parking Enforcement unit has reported a 110% increase in the issuance of tickets compared to last year. The aforementioned new measures will accompany the previously implemented traffic management plan, which includes the overnight closure of onsite parking and efforts to improve traffic flow at Kingston Road and Brimley Road. Solid Waste staff have also conducted clean ups each morning, beginning as early as 5:30 am, in a concerted effort to keep up with the increased volume of litter. As the season progresses, I will continue to follow this situation closely by leading meetings with City staff on a weekly basis. In the meantime, I thank you for your continued patience and cooperation, as I endeavour to restore Bluffers Park to a safe and enjoyable space for both local residents and park guests alike.
