To our Beloved in Christ, Much has been done in recent days to hear the voices of our people from all around our Diocese. We have done much listening, challeng...ing,sharing,counselling and praying. I thank all of you for reaching out from your hearts with conviction and bravery. On behalf of our people, I also thank our Clergy for their deep love of Christ, for their deep commitment, love and concern for our people. Here you will find links for two documents The first one contains my entire pastoral that addresses current mandates around the use of a vaccination passport. It is intended to encourage something we all need right now: reflection, and an opening of our hearts and minds to things that are of the deepest value for us all as followers of Jesus. I encourage you to read it in it’s entirety. The second one provides you with a summary of the protocol that is now in place in our diocese. This summary is included in the study document. These documents will also be posted on our Diocesan website and link provided for access. Should you have any questions after reading the documents, Please contact me. Welcome to Lent! THE FIRST DAY OF LENT COMMONLY CALLED ASH WEDNESDAY THE COLLECT... ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who hatest nothing that thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all them that are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we worthily lamenting our sins, and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. This Collect is to be read every day in Lent after the Collect appointed for the Day. FOR THE EPISTLE Joel 2.12-17 TURN ye even to me, saith the Lord, with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning. And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. Who knoweth if he will return, and repent, and leave a blessing behind him, even a meat-offering and a drink-offering unto the Lord your God? Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts; let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet; let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God? THE GOSPEL St. Matthew 6.16-21 WHEN ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face, that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Covid Pastoral from the Bishop Please take a few moments to read and watch and share. February 9,2021 Brothers and Sisters Every morning after my prayer time, ...I check my emails and messages. Today I had cause to return immediately to prayer because I received a number of emails telling me of how the most recent emergence of Covid 19 had affected them personally. There is an intermingling of faith, fear, worry and longing that has become part of every narrative. One of the messages I received shared the turmoil in the life of a teenager and asked for prayer for that one, and all of the circle of friends who were terrified, and feeling helpless. Many of you know that during every worship service I lead, I ask for prayer for the people and places that are affected in ways that we are not. We certainly are blessed here in Newfoundland, however, are being reminded of how quickly Covid 19 can emerge and spread. Some of our care institutions fall under Eastern Health, and so our parishes are following their directives. Other than that, t the present time, we have not received any notification of ne restrictions on our gatherings. That being said, I strongly remind everyone that we have absolutely no room for any compromise or laxity in our Covid protocols. Please be generous when you hear stories. Around our diocese, you have likely heard of people who are travelling and have brought infections to their communities. So far, outbreaks have been minuscule and easily tracked and contained. That is because protocols are working. I have insisted that our clergy contacted me when they hear of anything at all. We work together and contact the department of health for clarification. If you hear of services being cancelled, it is because we will act with caution and prudence. It is best to wait until the full stories unfold, rather than take to social media to read and offer incomplete information. I am asking you to take time for some focused prayer. Let us pray for the people of Eastern Newfoundland, especially those in heavily populated areas. Let us pray for our health care workers. Let us pray for Dr. Fitzgerald, who has been trust into a whirlwind of demands outside her vocation, and who has met them with patience and compassion. Let us pray for our government leaders. Let us pray for faith communities across the country. Let us pray for the Vulnerable. Let us pray deeply, for our young people and for healing, reassurance and a witness of God’s love and healing power for all. Amen See more

The Bishops Walk of Hope Saturday October 24 A Diocesan Event to affirm our Unity and join in Prayer together Bishop John has discerned that the time is idea...l for another Prayer Walk. On a personal level, he wishes to offer thanks for the ten-year anniversary as a Cancer survivor. Walking is a sign of hope, faith and thanksgiving. As well, walking is a powerful symbol of carrying loved ones, those in need, and those whom we love but see no longer, on our journey. In this time of uncertainty and change, the Bishop is asking each parish to participate in some way to unite our Diocese in prayer and action. That may be in the form of a local walk, prayer gathering or online service. Simply put, he is asking each of us to participate in a way that brings meaning to you, and connects our whole diocese as a family and community of faith. What Can I do? The Bishop and others will be leaving Gander from the Goose Irving at 8:00 a.m. Saturday October 24, 2020. You are invited to join the walk. If you are holding an event, try to be in prayer and fellowship sometime between 8:00 a.m. and noon. Make sure the details of your event are sent to synod office so that we can share them with others! If you wish to Donate as an outward sign, of your support sponsor sheets are available from Synod Office, Local Clergy, or online at centraldiocese.ca. You can send a donation to Synod Office as well. Donations will be used for various forms of outreach to those who need a helping hand in times of illness or need, through the Friends of the Bishop Fund.

Celebrating our Brother in Christ who has passed Doug Strickland.
Our dear brother in Christ, Doug Strickland has passed away. He was devoted to the church and his work for the Lord. He helped MC Mens Fellowship Old Fashion Concerts, was a devoted lay person and fellow parishioner. He will be missed by all who knew him and we pray, the memories and stories will comfort his family and friends during these times of reflection on the life that Doug had lived.
