Tonight! Online at 7 pm - join this group of talented authors for A West Coast Read-Aloud Christmas! A handful of British Columbia’s authors are coming to your home this December to read Christmas stories and poems to you and your social bubble. Why? Because nothing is better than being read to in your home at Christmas.... Nothing beats a voice telling you a good story. Or reading you a terrific poem. Nothing beats someone saying wonderful things in your ear. Especially at Christmas. Especially in a COVID-19 year. You are what you choose to read to others, and six of B.C.’s best authors will be revealing their Christmas selves to you as Black Bond Books presents A West Coast Read-Aloud Christmas on Saturday, December 5th at 7 p.m. This is a one-hour all-ages Zoom event free for everyone. Who’s coming? What will they be reading to you? Joy Davis, author of Complicated Simplicity (Island Life in the Pacific Northwest) will tell you about the winter solitude of Bath Island. Renowned author and commentator Bill Richardson, author of I Saw Three Ships, will read and honour W.H. Auden’s Thank You, Fog. Columnist and author Jack Knox will read A Perfectly Imperfect Christmas (or Martha Stewart Must Die) on how not to have the ideal Christmas. Renee Sarojini Saklikar will read a poem from Listening to the Bees, and honour Dylan Thomas’s A Child’s Christmas in Wales in a mash-up involving her multi-faith background. Comedian and author of So You're a Little Sad, So What? Alicia Tobin will read How to Talk to City Animals and finds the humour in being alone for the holidays. Jamie Lamb, author of Christmas in Mariposa, will take us inside Canada’s all-time best Christmas office party and introduce us to its unlikely host. This event is being organized on the unceded and traditional territories of the xwmkwym (Musqueam), swxwú7mesh (Squamish) and slílwta (Tsleil-Waututh) nations whose stories have covered and sustained this land since time immemorial.
