This Album will follow the Anglo Newfoundland Development Co, (A.N.D. Co.) through the years (and many name changes) from c1909 until 2009 when the Mill ceased operations. The paper industry impacted our lives in Botwood and area because there were very few families that didn't have someone employed there throughout the years. The 'company paychecks' also benefited the local economy.. This is quite a large collection and a lot of these photos are undated and unidentified so I am hoping that your 'comments' will help identify them and help me correct any errors. I think it is important that all photos be correctly identified. Judy Dean Gill

ALBUM #4 FLYING BOAT ERA

Botwood Heritage Society 23.02.2021

This Album will center on some of our volunteer organizations and various civic events. I have tried to 'edit' some of the older photos to 'clarify' them. . Also, there are a lot of 'no names', 'no dates' and 'names of events' not stated. I am hoping that you, the viewers, will add missing information to the 'comment' sections and I will add them to the captions. I will be adding more photos to this album. Judy Dean Gill

The earliest record of the Dean family in Newfoundland was Richard Dean, born c1680, Cork, Ireland who lived in Blackhead, Bay de Verde in 1706 and it is believed that all the Deans in the Carbonear area descended from him. According to the Seary Book of Names and the Plantation Book there were 4 brothers who settled in Newfoundland. They were Richard, Henry, John & Solomon. In 1782, these brothers were gifted a deed of land in Crocker’s Cove from their unnamed father. Th...Continue reading

This is a collection of photos that depict the people and town scenes of Botwood and our neighbours, Northern Arm & Peterview throughout the years. Enjoy the trip down memory lane through the eyes of our ancestors and present-day residents. Judy Dean Gill

Botwood, Northern Arm & Peterview are well represented with various religious organizations. It is interesting to see the physical changes of some of the churches in these photos. Some of the people in the photos have not been identified....please identify in 'comments' and I will add them to the captions. Thanks. Judy Dean Gill
