Outdoor social gatherings are prohibited this includes things like getting together in a park around a bonfire. Outdoor team sports and physical activity, inc...luding walking, hiking, skiing and skating, are permitted in groups of up to 10 people. Remember to limit your activities to your household where you can, or plan activities with your designated close contacts, as those are the safest options. Physical distancing must be in place between people from different households at all times, unless they are designated close contacts. If you’re unsure whether something is allowed, please err on the side of caution and make the safest choice.

We know it’s not a race... but this video made us cheer for Canada!

It was on this day that we discovered both female and male reindeer have antlers. Only the male reindeer lose them at the beginning of winter... so Santa’s reindeer are actually female!

Kananaskis Country Public Safety Section, Alberta Parks was busy bombing EEOR this morning in preparation for reopening the Smith Dorrien highway. It's always a great visualization of how much load you can acquire on a relatively small slope overhead, completely hidden from those on the road below. For scale, try and spot their Heli in the second and third frame.

We did it... we found the perfect 2020 Christmas Tree! Lots of people were out taking advantage of the beautiful weather and free Christmas Tree permits. Before you go, be sure to check the rules outlined in the comments below.

It looks like we did it! YourAlberta (Government of Alberta) finally acknowledged that 164 parks were set to be delisted and now will remain! We’ll be following up to find out if the 20 closures will be reopened also! Thank-you Albertans for standing with us!!! ... https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm

After the first snow flies, there are a handful of days when you can squint at the rocks and imagine that you've just travelled to Switzerland with the lush green grass valleys dominated by a rugged rocky snowy skyline... sip a Feldschlösschen, chomp a bratwurst, ring some cowbell, moo a little and you get it all without a 14 day quarantine! Happy Travels!!

Wow!!! The solstice delivers for the second year in a row! The days are already looking brighter and it has nothing to do with the sun! It’s very active though, the Smith Dorrien has closures and KCPS was posting about avi’s coming down on the road last night. Please let it settle and send us your pics from when it’s stable!

Wondering what effect the UCP’s park removal changes will have on Kananaskis? Here is a look at some of the areas most affected, according to the UCP’s list of Parks that will be REMOVED FROM THE PARKS SYSTEM.

A good reminder from last year. Summer trails are often unsafe snowshoe trails.

Who do you believe, the UCP that stated, 164 parks will be REMOVED FROM THE PARKS SYSTEM, or the UCP that refers to all of us who are defending Conservative Premier Lougheed’s Kananaskis Legacy as, the NDP and special interest groups???... Also, they’re using taxpayer funds to pay for this campaign instead of grooming ski trails in Kananaskis.

The numbers suggest registrations at these sites is almost exactly on par with average registrations across all reservable campsites in the provincial system. CBC News asked the provincial government again on Wednesday about all this, with four specific questions: 1. Why did Alberta Parks staff tell CBC News the department was working, for weeks, to gather up the five years' worth of data that had been requested in mid-September, only to then refuse to release it in Novemb...er, and refer all questions as to why to the press secretary? 2. The sites in the FOIP documents appear to show registrations that are virtually on par with the system-wide average, relative to the number of sites they have. So why were they included on the list of "164 under-utilized sites," as the government initially described? 3. Why was the campsite registration data provided under FOIP to a third party but not to CBC News, when both requests had been made around the same time (mid-September)? 4. Why is the additional information on financial revenue at self-registration sites still not being provided? Sinclair, the press secretary to Jason Nixon, replied with a short statement that didn't answer the questions. Note the reporters timeline in the comments below. https://www.cbc.ca//alberta-parks-delisting-campground-usa

Peter Lougheed area is getting groomed! Despite the minimal cost, Alberta Parks ceased grooming in Kananaskis this year. Thankfully Nordiq Alberta agreed to take on the collections to fund 100% of the grooming by users. We’re extremely disappointed that this government continues to not see the value in supporting recreation but we’re also proud of those who chose to step up and fill the void. ... With record x-country ski sales and Albertan’s looking for an escape from the crowds, hopefully Mt. Shark and Evan Thomas won’t be left to waste either.
