Custom kits will be individualized to target age appropriate learning goals (or specific therapy goals, if your child is currently receiving SLP, OT, or literacy intervention). Kits will include 10 activities. The following local businesses will be participating: Art & Soul Studio Radical Gardens... O'Reilly Sports Artsie Custom Framing Artsie Custom Framing & Art Supplies Eren's Toys Toffanello's Fresh Pasta Just Beecause Chocolates and Confections Bella's Boutique Dawn's Designs Kits can be designed for any age! (Ideal for 0-12 year olds, however teens or adults with developmental disabilities would also enjoy these kits). They will be winter themed so that they can be used at any time (perfect Christmas gift). If you aren't sure whether your benefits will cover one - ask them whether they cover speech-language pathology services. This kit would be considered a "home plan." We will provide a receipt upon payment that can be submitted to your benefits. OAP and Jordan's Principle funding can be used to cover the cost of the kits. Available in French or English. Cost is $160 - on sale for $150 before December 1st! We are only making 30 kits. Make sure to set your alarms for 8:30am tomorrow!

Did you know that October is Autism Awareness Month in Canada? We are so excited to bring back "Live @ Lunch" to talk about all things autism! If you have an autism-related question, let us know and your question may be one of the topics we select.

We have an opening for 1 client at GOLDEN AVENUE PUBLIC SCHOOL! This does not happen often and spots at GAPS are always hard to find. If your child is in one of the autism classes at GAPS and you would like them to receive private SLP services at school 1-2x per week, please contact us at 705-221-2787 or [email protected]. So excited to share all the "Custom Kit" details! This has to be the most fun project we have done :) Each kit will include 10 activities and at least 5 of the activities will be sourced from local businesses. In light of Timmins being located outside of the modified Stage 2 public health unit regions, residents are urged to use the following posters to assist those y...oungsters who are opting to go out trick-or-treating. It is strongly recommended that each household consider printing one of these posters to let your neighbors know whether you are handing out treats this year. Please refer to the following link: https://www.ontario.ca//how-celebrate-halloween-during-cov As well, the Timmins Police also urge the following guidelines be followed: - only go out with members of your household - only trick-or-treat outside - both trick-or-treaters and people handing out candy should wear a face covering a costume mask is not a substitute and should not be worn over a face-covering because it may make it difficult to breathe - do not congregate or linger in larger groups at doorsteps and remember to line up two meters apart if you are waiting for candy - avoid high-touch surfaces and objects, such as railings and doorbells - whether you are collecting or handing out treats, wash your hands often and thoroughly, or use hand sanitizer - If you are giving out treats, do not leave them in a bucket or bowl for children to grab. Consider using tongs or other similar tools to hand out treats.

We’ve reached the point where Charlie’s autism is no longer an invisible disability. It's reasonable for anyone who sees a seven-and-a-half-year-old at the groc...ery store hysterically jumping, squealing, and flapping his hands, to stare. I don’t blame them it’s human. A couple of times, in response to Charlie’s intense stimming, I heard a little kid ask their parents what was wrong with Charlie or why he was doing that. Every single time, the parent was embarrassed and told their child not to be rude. I don’t find it rude. And you don’t have to be embarrassed if your child has questions. Normalize it. Teach them about stimming. Explain that some children show their feelings differently. Don’t make it awkward! Non-harmful stimming shouldn’t be discouraged. We should strive to teach more kids about the different types of expression they'll encounter in the world

We are thrilled to introduce you to Taylor our newest team member! Taylor will be working as a community support worker for Bright Spot. Taylor holds an honours diploma as an Addictions and Mental Health Counsellor, from Canadian Career College. Taylor has three years of experience working with youth ages 13-18 who resided in a group home; and struggled with mental health and/ or behavioural barriers. Some of the mental health and behavioural barriers Taylor often worked w...ith include FASD, depression, anxiety, asperger syndrome, anger management challenges and more. Taylor also has valuable experience in therapeutic programming. Taylor was born and raised in Sudbury and recently relocated to Timmins. Taylor loves every opportunity to make peoples' days just a little bit brighter!
