A couple weeks ago we pruned this 205cm DBH black walnut. TJ and Cameron climbed while Morgan, Karla and Henry provided ground support. Bruce tree has cared for this tree for almost two decades. The tree has two large cavities. To support the stems Ian Bruce prescribed and oversaw the installation of a 70' hydro pole, to which 7 cables were installed. The pole is on a slight lean to allow its top to be directly centred over the tree's crown. The pole and cables have been in place for 15 years. For the safety of our employees, clients and the wider community, we have decided to temporarily suspend any tree care operations that require crews of arborists until April 6th. With health experts and all levels of government asking people to stay home and practice social distancing, we simply dont feel comfortable sending our employees out at this time. Despite working outside, in the course of a day our crews need to continuously handle and share equipment, tools, ropes ...and vehicles. They require access to public washrooms and, in some cases, rely on public transit to get to work. Adequate disinfection and social distancing are just too difficult. We will continue to visit properties and provide tree care quotes, but will communicate with clients by phone and email and meet them on site only if a safe level of social distancing can be maintained. Office staff will continue to serve our clients, but from the safety of their homes. We will also continue to provide our full arboricultural consulting and Plant Health Care services as long as they too can be completed while maintaining safe social distancing. As the days progress, we will monitor the situation and adjust our plans based on local information about the virus from health care professionals and the authorities. As the root grows, it puts on girth and begins to press against the trunk, eventually crushing the vascular cells below the bark impeding the flow of nutrients and water up the tree. Well, this is a first for us. While pruning an apple tree, Morgan and Holly saw a nest of leaves and assumed it was made by a squirrel. But instead, it had this single baby opossum in it. It didn't make any noise but stared at them intently as they finished pruning the tree.

While working on a property yesterday, the crew noticed a kitten stuck in a tree and in obvious distress. Meagan climbed up and brought the kitten down to safety. They then were able to find the very grateful owner.

There are two large cankers, one on the trunk and a second on a main stem. The objective of the reduction was to reduce the wind sail and forces acting on the defects.
