As melatonin levels rise in the evening, it puts your body into a state that promotes sleep.... This supplement is often used for mitigating jetlag and helping with sleep issues like insomnia. Short term use has been shown to be helpful with minimal side effects; however, less information is available about its long-term safety. Many people turn to melatonin for chronic or occasional insomnia and experience mixed results.
