Hi fellow members. Grant Withers here. I am a volunteer co-chair of the STRIDE Burnaby Arts Festival which starts January 16. Here’s some info on the festival. I hope you check it out and participate. Take care. ... The STRIDE Burnaby Arts Festival is your connection to local arts and culture. Running from January 16 - 30, 2021 STRIDE will offer educational, entertaining and provocative virtual programs plus safe 'in-real-life' experiences all designed to renew our connections with the arts and with each other. Burnaby is a creative and connected community abuzz with art and artists and we have so many ways for you to add art to your lives during and even after the festival. Want to attend a virtual live music concert or artist studio tour? Maybe participate in a workshop and make some art of your own? Grab your umbrella and explore a public art installation in the forest before you visit the numerous local businesses exhibiting Burnaby-made art. You might just find the perfect piece to brighten your home! Find us online at www.WeAreBurnaby.com where you can meet our artists in the profiles section and check out our map and schedule to make your own arts action plan. Made by neighbours for neighbours, STRIDE is part arts festival, part community catalyst and all fun. Let’s celebrate Burnaby’s art and soul! Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook @strideburnabyarts

After the very first Photoshop Virtual Summit ended in April, the most common question I received was "when is the next Summit?" Well, I'm thrilled to announce that the Photoshop Virtual Summit II will be on November 9 - 13, 2020. And registration is now open. For more info, visit: https://davecross.krtra.com/c/4O0xwWrsaqrK/NJP0 ... Dates: November 9 - 13, 2020. 20 expert instructors teaching 40 classes - over 30 hours of content! And you can watch it for free! We've got a great line-up of instructors for you including Ben Willmore, Colin Smith, Matt Kloskowski, Lisa Carney, Glyn Dewis, Corey Barker, Blake Rudis, Kristina Sherk, Mark Heaps, Sebastian Michaels and many more. The list of classes is equally amazing - I can't wait to share these classes with you. All classes are free to watch for a 48 hour period once they go live, and there's an optional VIP Pass available for purchase that gives you lifetime access to the recordings of all classes, along with audio recordings, instructor-provided class notes and downloadable files. Hello fellow photographers. Grant Withers, here. As many of you know, I love building community through the arts and helping others improve their photography skills. I’ll soon be doing BOTH during a series of free weekly online photo workshops for novice photographers in my North Burnaby neighbourhood. Do you know a novice North Burnaby photographer who might not have a strong community connection like we have in the BPS? If so, please share this post with them so they can ...join me in the Burnaby Heights Back2Basics Photo Group. No fancy camera equipment required a smartphone is fine! There’s no cost to participate thanks to funding by a Vancouver Foundation - Small Neighbourhood Grant, but space is limited so registration is required. Registration opens May 7. Meetings Going Virtual...Soon! Members will know that we were already in the process of rethinking our website and general communications approaches even before the arrival of the coronavirus. Our efforts have been "assisted" by our host space, the Shadbolt Centre, cancelling all meeting activities and access until at least mid-May. In response, the executive and numerous volunteers are:... Updating the website to include a members-only area where we can host virtually the image nights, print nights, theme nights, etc., which have been in-person events until now; Coordinating such events with improved support from Facebook and Twitter; Using a new website and social media to improve our ability to manage club entries to the many photo contests and other events that we participate in. Our intention is to use social media to help drive attendance at meetings and programs (virtual and otherwise) and boost membership. We will get back to every Monday meetings as soon as we can. We will post updates here, on Twitter and on our new website as soon as it is up and running! Meanwhile, the illustration might be entitled: "Searching for new Directions."

It's Family Day tomorrow, so no meeting at the Shadbolt, but get ready for next week, when the Kwans are back for part two of their workshop. http://russelandwendykwan-photographyandclasses.com/
