As part of our virtual camps, our campers were encouraged to learn the John Geddie story, the man who our beloved camp is named after, and tell it themselves through puppets. One of our eager campers share with us a short video of her adaptation of the story which we are proud to share with you all. There is no sound in the video, but we included a brief synopsis of the story below. The John Geddie Story, John Geddie was born in 1815 in Banff Scotland and his family moved t...o Pictou Nova Scotia shortly after. After graduating from Pictou Academy, John studied theology. He married his wife Charlotte Macdonald in 1839 and moved to Prince Edward Island where John was the minister at Cavendish Presbyterian Church. John and Charlotte had 5 children, 4 daughters and 1 son. John Geddie felt the call of missions, in 1846 he began traveling to the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu) to start mission work there. John worked as a missionary for over 20 years, and helped to translate the bible into the native language. John and his family moved to Australia where John passed away in 1872. A plaque was placed in his church with the inscription, When he landed in 1848, there were no Christians here, and when he left in 1872 there were no heathen. See more
