ASTRO 2020 Virtual Session | Space Situational Awareness Technical Session November 12, 2020 13:00 - 15:30... Space Situational Awareness (SSA) is the practice of sensing and understanding outer space with a view towards safety of space flight and the maintenance of a sustainable, secure space environment. Recently, Space Domain Awareness (SDA) has received an increased profile emphasizing the risks posed by the changing security environment, an increasing space debris population and other risks which, more broadly, could inhibit space operations. SDA builds on SSA, but is defined as Actionable knowledge to predict, avoid, deter, operate through, recover from, and/or attribute cause of loss or degradation of space capabilities and services. This session presents papers on current and future SSA and SDA issues with an emphasis on Canadian space operations. Each presentation will be followed by a few minutes for questions from the audience. ASTRO 2020 VIRTUAL SESSION | DRDC SPACE DOMAIN AWARENESS WORKSHOP November 05, 2020 13:00 - 16:30 DRDC Technical Workshop... Canadian Space Domain Awareness: Today and Tomorrow Canada has growing equities in space with orbital assets contributing to the Canadian economy, defense, security and the progress of science and technology. The Canadian national interest is clearly affected by changes in this newly recognized domain of operations. Accordingly, the field of Space Domain Awareness (SDA) has received an increased profile emphasizing risks posed by the changing space security environment - but this is not enough to ensure Canada remains at the forefront of the various issues posed by the increase of activity in space over the next decade. Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) is pleased to convene a virtual workshop aimed at engaging Canadians on SDA with an emphasis on Canadian needs and requirements for the next 10 years. During this workshop, participants will hear from, and interact with, speakers of the Canadian defence, commercial and civil space sectors on their perspectives and outlook for SDA as we begin this new decade.
