Check out the LineDrone project submitted to the Centre of Excellence by Hydro-Québec. The new drone is used to inspect high-voltage lines and can make a semi-autonomous landing using an on-board peripheral vision device. The vision system enables the drone to detect and recognize electrical conductors. The ENMAX Shepard Energy Centre uses reclaimed wastewater from The City of Calgary’s Bonnybrook Wastewater Treatment Facility for all its power generation needs a first in Alberta. Check out the Predictive Analytics Preventing Cable Failure project submitted by ENMAX to the Centre of Excellence. ENMAX Power Corporation identified underground cable failures as the highest contributor to both total customer outage minutes and total customer outage frequency. In response to this finding, ENMAX Power developed an innovative predictive analytics model to proactively identify buried cables at high risk of failure. The model is meant to improve the customer experience by addressing reliability concerns due to unplanned cable failures in high-risk areas and help mitigate costs associated with unplanned outages, which can take time to locate and repair.
