Fascinating discussion about what music does to the mind, featuring MRI scans of pianist Leif Ove Andsnes' brain:

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving!
Decolonial Imaginings: First Group Conversation As part of our ongoing workshop, on July 22, 2020, the curators and participating artists spent two hours sharin...g in a talking circle model, with each artist presenting a prompt and others responding in turn. You can find the six videos from this first group conversation on our website (link in bio and below). Watch for more videos, small group sessions, and imagined compositions coming soon! www.of-the-now.ca/decolonialimaginings Co-Produced with the Canadian Music Centre in BC and supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
So much good news to share! (but such a dire-sounding title ...)

Something I will be participating in this weekend.
Part of 19 Waltzes For The Distanced a Blueridge Festival tribute to John Cage I read ten poems written during the COVID lockdown with flutist Mark McGregor in George Wainborn Park.
So excited for Mark McGregor who has just won Classical Artist of the Year at the 2020 Western Canadian Music Awards! He is also the most adored. Congratulations Mark!
Martin Bartlett was a force of nature. He was at UVic teaching when Rodney Sharman, Christopher Butterfield, Owen Underhill, and others were all there. He delighted in provoking and confounding expectations and had the most devilish, gleeful sense of humour. He was a true titan and head of the computer lab there. Someone told me he invented a synthesizer before Moog did. Far ahead of his time. I wish he were here now to talk to.
