This week's most popular questions are... what are the rules and the time the rinks are open? Rinks are always open, but it's lights out at 10. Rules are below. Oh and keep it under 10 per rink of course! If it's busy limit your time to an hour ...this would be wicked awesome of you!

Vehicle theft is an ongoing concern within the city of Calgary. Each year, as the weather cools, the Calgary Police Service receives an increase in stolen vehicle thefts, targeting unlocked vehicles left running (warming up). With this in mind, please consider: What can you do to prevent vehicle theft? Do not leave a vehicle running with the keys in the ignition for any length of time, even with the doors locked. ... Never hide a second key in or around the vehicle. Always close the windows, lock the doors and pocket the key. Park in well-lit and well-traveled areas. Take valuables with you or hide them out of sight. Use anti-theft measures such as a steering wheel lock, a vehicle immobilizer system or an alarm system. Consider installing a remote starter if you need to warm up your vehicle in the morning. Report suspicious activity. If you see suspicious people in or around motor vehicles, call 9-1-1. Remember, a few minutes braving the cold with your vehicle can save you from a headache down the line.

In the last post, there were concerns and feedback around policing. When I saw this about the Residential Traffic Saftey Unit, I thought I should share it for sure! "Over the last three years, the Calgary Police Service has developed a new unit to specifically address Residential Traffic Safety. This unit has been presenting to each Ward in the City to both provide and to solicit information on problem areas throughout the City to allow more specific and targeted visibilit...y and enforcement. This unit is specifically interested in Residential TRAFFIC issues. The strategy has been: Utilize citizen feedback to inform operational response Focus on playground zones, pedestrian rich locations, and other high-risk locations identified through collision data analysis Emphasize public awareness and education, and facilitate citizen engagement through Ward Traffic Safety Meetings and to work with City partners to further support traffic calming measures outside enforcement IF YOU HAVE A TRAFFIC SAFETY CONCERN: One of the key tools to help Calgary Police Service monitor and track these issues is the Traffic Service Request (TSR). Seeking feedback. If you let us know your thoughts, we will make sure the city gets them! Please note the email did state that the playground zones are not being changed. -MR

Who’s excited that the fountain has been on at Babbling Brook? Unfortunately something has been tripping up the pump so it’s been a little bit on the fritz! Don’t fear! We have a crew on site checking things out and seeing what they can do to fix it! We are aware of the problem and hope it will be under control soon!... Hope you hadn’t planned to cool down in the fountain today to escape the heat! (For the record, that is a joke. Swimming is prohibited in the creek or fountain.) Stay cool!

Calgary Parks will be starting an irrigation project soon! They will be putting in a new irrigation in the sports fields at Canterbury Drive SW and 6 Street SW (Babbling Brook Park CAN345) The purpose is to install efficient irrigation so that the fields can withstand high use and stay in good condition. Along with the irrigation installation, the small baseball diamond will be removed. This diamond was slated for removal, as it is underutilized and the outfield overlaps the ...soccer field which can create conflict and a safety hazard. There is a chance that the local pathway on the southwest side of the park will be temporarily closed while there is excavation for the Parks water Service adjacent to it. At the moment the start date is not confirmed, but construction should start in a week and go until the end of the season. There may be time required at the start of next year for the turf rehabilitation. Please let us know if you have any questions so we can pass them on to the City and the landscape architects. My only question was if they would look to see if they would find the other water source that has been only identified as a mystery.
