Hello French Friday 2021!!! As everyone take new resolutions at the beginning of the year, why not one French Friday, right?! The new concept will be to have a theme for each month. January will be entraînement croisé, also better known as Cross-Training!... Here we are super excited about our evidence of partnership at Sawatzky Equine Services. Sophia Lowie is competing as a youth in the sport of Extreme Cowboy Racing. Sophia and her mom had the brilliant idea to involve Melissa Glowinski and myself, Celine Gobet Reining to take Remi in training. Remi Sliding Diamond, by Colonel Remi, out of a Doc’s Oak mare, is a beautiful, athletic, nice minded 4 year old mare. We are dividing the week so that Remi can work on her reining and obstacles skills. It is super fun, I work on one of my favourite maneuvers which are lead changes and her spins. And even more fun, I get to work on ground tie at the end of each ride - one part of Melissa’s program, that is done at the end of every single session - and free run! I am thankful to experience this partnership and looking forward to more! Diversity is amazing to keep a horse level headed, not getting caught into a pattern and anticipation, physically more sound, keep curiosity engaged, and more! Thank you Elaine Lowie, Sophia, Melissa, Sawatzky Equine Services to create this unique environment of diversity! It is so enjoyable to work on reining maneuvers with an obstacle horse, and work on obstacles with a reining horse!!! What do you think?

We survived Mesa first day of online schooling for this week!!! We are very thankful to Sawatzky Equine Services family. Mesa was able to be focus on her school in the classroom/viewing room upstairs, while I was training horses. And Noah was the best cheer leader at recess. The best part was gym, 45 minutes to be physically active. Well, guess what was the activity??? ... Bareback riding! Thank you so much Cindy Sawatzky for being gym teacher today! And to Mrs Cook to take on an outside of the box job, we are lucky to have such great teachers at Rich Valley school.

Joyeux Noël!!! French Friday is happening this week on Christmas Day, so I wanted to make a special post! Ok, let’s forget about horses for today! ... Let’s play a little game: Which drink pairs well with your horse? And would you like to know what kind of menu (same word in french, easy to remember!!!) we had for Christmas Eve with my family reunion? (When I used to live in France!) ~MENU DE NOEL~ ~aperitif: petits fours (small bites savoury appetizers), smoked salmon on blinis... served with champagne or non alcool punch! Be ready, my dad is a master at matching wine with each course of the meal!!!! He likes to travel around France to buy wine and Champagne directly from the Vigneron - Vintner/winemaker - from the original regions : Bordeaux, Champagne, Burgundy (white Chardonnay comes from there), Côte de Provence, Alsace (Riesling is from there)... And my mom and her mom (my grand mother) such good cooks. They are not afraid to prepare this kind of meal, even if it takes days!!! ~oysters, and we always had a side of shrimps for the one not liking the oysters like me!!! Lol served with a Riesling or dry white wine and sparkling water ~Foie Gras served on Roquette salad; with a Vin Jaune, similar to Moscato but sweeter, like the Canadian Ice Wine. Sometimes we would have Scallop cooked in the shell instead of Oysters... ~Stuffed Turkey or Pheasant or Geese, with Chesnuts, mashed butternut, potatoes or sweet potatoes, roasted apples, cèpes which are wild mushrooms; Served with Bordeaux from my cousin’s production (she works as wine manager/maker in Bordeaux!). ~plateau /board of cheese with baguette; and continuing with Bordeaux and sparkling water!!! Lol ~Bûche de Noël, chestnut, chocolate or vanilla/raspberry flavoured. It can be fresh or sort of ice cream cake, and look like a log! Served with white or rosé champagne. Tada!!!! Now do you think that is a lot of food and drinks? Ok, I tell you our secret.... we started appetizers around 7pm, exchanging gifts at the same time, and the meal feast would go on until midnight! One course at a time, small portions of food and small portions of wine. That’s a long time to seat at the table!!! Hahaha. But we had such great times visiting at the same time. For the food lovers, What is your menu today? I would love to hear your delicious recipes. Here is a little bit of exotic flavour to wish you a very Merry Christmas from our family to yours! Stay warm and safe!

Bienvenue à French Friday! I hope you enjoyed the last 2 posts about leg protection, here is the next video!!! This is a demonstration of how to apply a quilt underneath polo wraps. No more struggling to try to hold the quilt wrapped around first and then roll the polo wrap on top, everything turns and fall apart!!! It feels like we need at least 3 or 4 hands to do the job! ... The video show you an effective way of preparing the quilt and polo together, then you need only 2 hands to get it done! I learned this from a vet applying resting wraps, doing the same preparation of rolling quilt and wrap together. Then, I applied it in my own way with polo wraps and coverage of the knees. There is a little surprise in the video! I wrapped one leg in English, and the other one in French!!! Here is for my special friend Sindy Fournier and my francophone friends! petite surprise en deuxième partie de la vidéo, tout en français!!! Mesa always tells me my voice is not the same when I speak English or French! Do you find that too? Happy riding, and remember to take good care of your horses legs

Bienvenue a French Friday! Camaraderie is a french word that you all know! Last weekend, we had our final Reining Alberta North Branch show of season 2020. That is a place where I experience high level of Camaraderie! ... It starts at the beginning of the day when I take Flex, a 2 year old, for the first time in the show pen, with limited time in training. It was so nice to hear words of encouragements from different people. Then, to witness the youth in short stirrup class cheering for each other, and spending half the day on their horses becoming friends and making memories! Friends cheering for each other, noticing improvements in their riding skills, a specific maneuver, or a special run that was nicely put together. Discussing strategies, and making pep talks! Giving compliments about outfits to! I also loved to watch Fayth coaching her mom, sharing the same horse like that they can both have a great show! Camaraderie is when new members are joining in and feel welcome to what we call the Reining Family!! Local businesses that are generously sponsoring the Club, and members showing appreciation through pictures and purchase. When it is someone birthday, everyone stop what they are doing for a moment, and sing Happy Birthday all together!! This happened to be me last year, at a show in July, I couldn’t feel anymore special! Congratulations to all my clients and friends for their accomplishments at Reining Alberta North Branch show season 2020! Is there anything that make you think of Camaraderie? Thank you for reading and enjoy the weekend! Au revoir

Bienvenue à French Friday! Spinning in the box, aka pivoter dans une boîte! Sully cracked me up!!! He is a 2 year old, sired by Lil Ruf Cody Sstar, and according to his owner, Nova, he liked to spin on his own in the pasture, he is a natural!!! lol lol ... Actually, I found that it is showing up under saddle as well, any excuses to go into a spin move! One day someone set up poles to make up a square on the ground in the arena. I stepped in it with Sully , left him loose reins (which is his favourite), and he kept himself walking in the box, like the poles were a fence. I laughed a lot!!! That was in his first 30 days of riding carrier. This week, the poles were set up again, I sent him to see what would happen ... and he started to spin in the box!!! Lol lol He does that every time. What a character!!! In the reining world we often talk about trying to keep the spin in a virtual box. Now Sully showed me there is actually a way of training the turn around in a physical box! He doesn’t completely use a pivot foot in the video, but his desire to move his shoulders on such loose reins at his stage is rare. There is definitely a lesson to learn from each horse. I can’t wait to try Sully’s trick with another horse, maybe a horse that would travel too much in the spin, or a horse that is more visual? I wonder if Sully’s story inspired you to try spinning in a box?! Vidéo credit to Brenda and Joanne

Mesa was asking me for a while if I could train Azul (Smokin sweet babe) to be ridden bare back. Now I have her home for a short break - before taking her back to Sawatzky Equine Services - in the evening, we spent some horse time as a family, with Denis Gobet and Mesa. So, I jumped on Azul bareback. It didn’t take long before Mesa had her turn, and left Smoky ground tie in the middle!!!

Bienvenue à French Friday! I thought I would share with you, introduction to fencing a young/green horse. In the demo, that is the first time Flex, 2 year old stud prospect by @dunitsmart thistime - is fencing. Owned by Krista Hunter... Fencing is an exercise we do a lot in reining, it teaches the horse to go on a straight line, away from the long walls, without anticipating any turns. Some horses are very comfortable going into the fence, some are more shy. Give them some time to adjust, and figure out how to get to the wall with a straight body. They might need to break gate at a walk instead of loping all the way to the end, until they feel confident. I hope you enjoy the demo, and happy montée au stop (run down to the stop!)

2020 Reining Alberta Fall Classic! What a good feeling to go back to a big show again. The commitee worked hard to make it happen, and it shows that everyone appreciate. Trainers and Non Pros came from lots of different provinces, Manitoba, BC, Saskatchewan, Alberta, so fun to watch so many good runs, and be part of it. That was a first for Smokin Sweet Babe, great experience for her to handle crazy schedules, and new grounds. She is definitely a cutie ... So happy with Linda Fontaine and PineCrome progress over the weekend, setting goals one step at a time! I find that keeping goals easy/doable to accomplish, is really good for the soul. Set up one or 2 things to improve on, different for each runs. One step, 1 point better at a time! I loved to visit with my friends, so fun to get together. Tammy Schwartz Nelson, Lisa Harris, Rosalind Peddie-Hynes, Brooke Nelson, Fayth Harris, Peggy Keller
