With the frequent rainfall in May and June, our bulb digging was delayed. We’ve finally had a long enough stretch of dry weather to complete the process! We dig up bulbs in late spring - or in this year’s case, early summer - and sort through them. The larger bulbs are used in our greenhouse operations for next Spring’s cut flowers sales, and they’re also sold at our Sunflower Festival in August through September. The smaller bulbs are replanted at the farm in the fall for the following year’s Tulip Festival, where they’re given more time to grow. #ChilliwackTulipFest
In late winter we hosted our annual I Tulips event in Metropolis at Metrotown. Just recently our team received this video footage from Blrrd Creativ. So much has happened world-wide since that event, it was almost surreal to look back at this beloved day. We really missed our guests this year at the Tulip Festival fields and are working to create a modified experience for our Sunflower Festival in hopes that we will be able hold it this August. Hope to able to see everyone gather for flowers again soon!
We were saddened that we were unable to welcome you all physically to this year’s festival, however, now that the blooms have come and gone, we’re excited to share the beauty virtually! Remember to check out our virtual tour video of our 2020 field. #ChilliwackTulipFest ... Reminder: Our tulips are long since gone, and the bulbs are being harvested later this month. Please do not trespass, as it is private property and a working farm with active machinery.
Our tulips are long since gone and our bulbs are to be harvested later this month, however while the flowers were in full bloom, some footage was captured to bring you a virtual tour through this year’s beautiful fields! #ChilliwackTulipFest
The boxes are all packed and sent off to our winners! Thank you to everyone who participated in our giveaway - we truly appreciate your support of our greenhouse and festival! #ChilliwackTulipFest | #SupportLocal
And the tulips have been topped! Have you ever wondered what happens with the tulips once we close for the season? We’re a working farm and our tulips are here for much more than just the show of the festival. Every year after closing, we run cutting machines through our acres of tulips - leaving the stalks, and the bulbs below.... Sell them, don’t top them! one would think, but it’s all a part of the tulip’s growing cycle. Topping the tulips prevents them from putting senseless energy into growing seeds, and redirects that energy into the bulbs instead, which are harvested later. The large bulbs are then used for our greenhouse cut flower operations, and the smaller bulbs are replanted in the fall for the following year’s festival season. #ChilliwackTulipFest

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chilliwack Tulip Festival will not move forward this year. The health and safety of our guests and staff is very important to us. We will strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the Provincial Health Officer regarding prohibiting events greater than 50 people. At this time, the best advice we can follow is that of BC's health and government officials, to simply "stay home." We look forward to the day when we can see you again in-person. ... Until then, stay safe and healthy.
