My thoughts on COVID-19 and the real estate industry. People still need to buy and sell real estate. We, at Caldwell Banker 2M, have closed our office to all agents and the public to ensure the health and safety of our support staff. We no longer overlap showings. We have created a COVID-19 protocol and documentation to protect our clients, ourselves and our business. But some offices aren’t as proactive. So... Yesterday OREA encouraged all Realtors to stop hosting Open Hou...ses. I believe there should be an outright ban on Open Houses until we flatten the curve. Most in the industry simply use it as a form of lead generation and those that do come to look at specific homes are often sent by their ‘out-of-town’ agents instead of being present at the showings themselves. Social distancing will be improved by having agents actually attend showings and that those showings are scheduled by offices that won’t overlap. I will not be hosting any Open Houses. That is even after we made the decision very early to close our sales office.
