Olivia Duffin, one of our soprano Choral Scholars, began her musical career as a young chorister in the Girls’ Choir at Christ Church Cathedral, Ottawa. So naturally, when she moved to Victoria to take up her bachelor’s degree in voice performance, she sought out the opportunity to join our cathedral community. Of her experience here, she says: Singing with others is something I value so much. Making music is everything to me, and I’m so lucky I get to make music with other ...people. Over these past 8 months, Olivia has joined with the other Choral Scholars on countless occasions to bring beautiful music to our liturgies. Choral Scholarships at CCC are an initiative funded entirely by the Music Fund. To find out more about how you can support our Choral Scholar program, please email Donald Hunt ([email protected]) or make a gift here: https://givepoint.com/christchurchcathedral/music-fund
At this time of year, we remember all those who have died of overdose. It is difficult for families, friends, and caregivers to mourn during the Pandemic. The healing found in sharing grief can be hard to find. The memorial is an opportunity to take the time to remember, reflect and seek hope in the silence, the words shared and the commitment to those who have died.
For children and all families, here is Cathedral Sunlight for this coming Sunday. https://vimeo.com/468688748

Building on the success of last year’s devotional performance of Duruflé’s Requiem on All Souls’ Day, Christ Church Cathedral is pleased to announce this year’s observance to mark the day of the dead in the form of an online video service. As a cathedral for the city and indeed the world, the service this year holds in prayer those who have died from causes currently at the forefront of our collective psyche: systemic racism, the opioid crisis, missing and murdered indigeno...us women, climate change, and COVID-19. Take a deep breath and calm down with Herbert the Turtle! Hear a talk, sing a hymn, say a Psalm, hear the Gospel, say a prayer, and pass the peace! This is an Anglican service for children and their families in under 8 minutes. Church-to-go! Peace be with you. https://vimeo.com/466670847

Come and join us for our next Theology on Tap with another renowned scholar from New York City! ..."Womanist theology is a response to sexism in black theology and racism in feminist theology. . . . Womanist theology examines the social construction of black womanhood in relation to the African American community and religious concepts. . . . Womanist theology is known for its analysis of religion and society in light of the triple oppression of racism, sexism, and classism that characterizes the experience of many black women. Womanist religious scholars want to unearth the hidden voices in history, scripture, and the experience of contemporary marginalized African American women to discover fragments that can create a narrative for the present and future."
