**MOVEMBER FUNDRAISER** Members of the Bathurst Fire Department are joining forces to participate in Movember, a global initiative that raises funds and awarene...ss for men’s mental health, suicide prevention and prostate & testicular Cancer. For the entire month of November, 17 of our firefighters will be putting down their razors to help support this cause. Throughout the month we encourage the public to give generously and all funds collected will be donated to the Movember foundation. Each one of our participating firefighters will also be making a donation. Even our firetrucks will be sporting magnetic moustaches! We will be posting periodic update photos of our moustaches progress. At the end of the month, we will ask the public to vote on the department’s best moustache. *** MESSAGE FRANÇAIS AU BAS *** FREEMAN OF THE CITY RECOGNITION At the Regular Public Meeting of Bathurst City Council on Monday October 19th, the City of Bathurst officially recognized Mr. Ronald (Ron) Frederick Melvin with the Freeman of the City honor.... The Freeman of the City award is the highest title possible for any citizen of our community. Mr. Melvin moved to Bathurst, with his family, from Saint John in the early 60s and gave of himself to various local organizations, namely: the Bathurst Jaycees, Bathurst Minor Hockey, the Gloucester Kings Midget AAA team, the N.B. Air Canada Midget Triple AAA organization, Bathurst Minor Baseball, the Bathurst Navy League, the Holy Family Church Council and the Royal Canadian Legion. Throughout, Mr. Melvin received a number of awards and recognitions recognizing his contributions. Bathurst City Council offers its congratulations and thanks to Mr. Ron Melvin for nearly 60 years’ worth of contributions to help improve of the quality of life for citizens and youth in our City. The City of Bathurst is very proud to name Ronald Frederick Melvin as a Freeman of the City of Bathurst. -------------------- DISTINCTION CITOYEN/CITOYENNE D’HONNEUR Lors de la séance publique ordinaire du conseil municipal de Bathurst du lundi 19 octobre, la Ville de Bathurst a officiellement reconnu M. La distinction Citoyen Citoyenne d’honneur est le plus haut titre possible pour n’importe quel citoyen ou citoyenne de notre communauté. Au début des années 60, M. Melvin a déménagé sa famille à Bathurst et il s’est donné à des organisations locales variées depuis, notamment les Jaycees de Bathurst, le hockey mineur de Bathurst, l’équipe des Kings Midget AAA Gloucester, l’organisation N.B. Air Canada Midget Triple AAA, le baseball mineur de Bathurst, la Ligue navale de Bathurst, le conseil d’administration de l’église Sainte Famille et la Légion royale canadienne. En raison de ses contributions, M. Melvin a reçu nombre de prix et reconnaissances. Le conseil municipal de Bathurst offre ses remerciements et félicite M. *** MESSAGE FRANÇAIS AU BAS *** COMPANION ANIMALS ON CITY GREEN TRAILS As there have been a number of reports of dogs let loose by their owners in the Bathurst Watershed Area green trails, the City of Bathurst takes this opportunity to remind users of the City’s Green Trails, who are also dog owners, of the following provisions in By-Law NO. 2012-04 regulating the keeping and controlling of companion animals in the City of Bathurst:... 6 A OWNERS RESPONSIBILITIES (1) If a dog or cat defecates on any public or private property other than the property of its owner, the owner shall cause such feces to be removed immediately or shall be guilty of an offence under this by-law. (4) No owner shall suffer, permit, allow, or for any other reason have his or her dog running at large, except in designated off-leash areas. Any person who violates any provision of By-Law NO. 2012-04 is guilty of an offence and is liable on conviction to fines ranging from $100 to $300. RESPONSABILITÉS DU PROPRIÉTAIRE (1) Le propriétaire d’un chien ou d’un chat qui défèque sur une propriété publique ou privée autre que la sienne est tenu d’enlever immédiatement les matières fécales, à défaut de quoi il ou elle sera reconnu(e) coupable d’une infraction à cet arrêté. (4) Le propriétaire d’un animal ne doit en aucun cas permettre de laisser courir librement son chien sans laisse, sauf dans les secteurs désignés expressément à cette fin. Toute personne qui enfreint aux dispositions de l’arrêté municipal NO. 2012-04 est coupable d’une infraction et passible, sur déclaration de culpabilité, à des amendes variant entre 100$ et 300$. *** MESSAGE FRANÇAIS AU BAS *** Members of the Bathurst Police Force and staff at the City of Bathurst express their deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolence...s to the members of the Allain and Vickers families on the passing of retired Deputy Chief Bernie Allain on Monday August 31st. Bernie dedicated 46 years to the service of the Bathurst Police Force, beginning as a patrol officer and moving up through the ranks to eventually hold the position of Deputy Chief of Police, until his retirement in 2015. Bernie was not just a leader; he was a true friend one could count on in times of need. Very much respected by his peers, he will be missed by all. City flags are at half-mast in honor of Bernie Allain.
