Our Rabbi Emeritus, Rabbi Bulka, spoke at today's National Remembrance Ceremony. "Today we are not at war, but we are in a battle for our individual and collective health and well being. Those of us who never really went through war, now have a better idea of what it means to be separated from loved ones. Everyone one of us has been separated from loved ones. Our veterans, who we remember today and always, they chose to fight for our country, for our freedom; Knowing that it meant separation from their family.

Hakafot this year will have no dancing but tons of spirit. The best way to describe it is a Simhat Torah under the stars (inside of our tent) with campfire-style singing surrounding our many Torah scrolls. The first Hakafah of the evening will be dedicated to the children of our community with all of our favourite songs from previous Family Simhat Torah parties and pre-packaged goodie bags to go. As always, strict physical distancing and masking will be enforced throughout this unique experience. The crazy weather couldn't stop us from celebrating our Grade One students! Mazal Tov! Whether they participated in person or via Zoom, they were all thrilled to receive their beautiful new siddurim. Many thanks to the Machzikei Hadas Sisterhood for purchasing the siddurs, to our Candyman for providing the treats, and to the many loved ones who joined us on Zoom.

Hi dear Machzikei Family. First and foremost, we hope that you and yours are well. We are writing to extend to you our warmest wishes as we enter the new year, 5781.... We are stating the obvious in observing that we are living in unprecedented times, with an uncertain future. As uncertain as the future is, we are certain that there will be a future. And till we reach that stage, our task is to get through this very challenging period. By getting through, we do not mean just squeezing by. By getting through, we mean assuring that everyone gets though this in good health and vigour, with spirits intact - with optimism and resolve. As we enter the High Holy Days period, we will be together even though we are in different, smaller size gatherings. This is a separateness that derives from our togetherness, from our uncompromising desire to protect each other. This spirit of dedication to each other will carry us through to the time when we can enjoy each other’s real presence. And to appreciate each other even more. With our warmest wishes for a blessed future, Rabbi Scher and Rabbi Bulka

The Machzikei High Holiday tents are up and they are huge! We are looking forward to services outside in these two large tents (yes, the side panels will be re...moved but not until closer to the weekend). Setting up the chairs in a socially distanced way and still have plenty of space. Getting excited for the holidays! See more
