As we enjoy the beautiful summer weather and are spending time outside with our human and furry family members, I would like to share an important safety message from Maple Ridge Veterinary Hospital. Please keep your pets safe from accidental ingestion of food scraps. From my personal experience, many years ago at a barbecue my dog grabbed a pork chop bone off a plate and the bone lodged in her esophagus. Luckily it was noticed quickly but she had to have emergency surgery t...o remove the bone. She recovered well and went on to live many more years after the scary incident. Incidents can happen very quickly and I wanted to share the important message about pet safety during summertime activities. Fun Fact Friday... well this one’s maybe not so fun for the dog. If you have kids, you also more than likely have kinetic sand. Here’s an X-ray of a dog that i...ngested it. As a result, the dog had to go for surgery because as her body tried to move it through her intestinal tract it would just remould and reshape. Keep this stuff under lock and key if your furry friend likes to eat things they’re not supposed to!!
