What words first appeared in print in the year you were born?
I love having Merriam-Webster’s word of the day pop up in my news feed. ‘Boilerplate’ is a nice legal kind of word. MW recently shared the word ‘recidivism’ as well, also a legal word, but not relevant to my areas of practice. Boilerplate though......I see that stuff everywhere.
This was a nice surprise. Thanks to all those people who voted for my law firm.
I have to say I really like this description of excessive speeding. I hope the ruling sticks. An appeal court judge ruled that driving at such a high speed is so wildly beyond any safe standard that it is appropriately branded criminal.
One Will prepared by a lawyer is a lot safer than leaving behind three handwritten Wills with scribbles, scratches and corrections.
A timely article for several of my clients. Lynne Butler, a lawyer and will and estate planner at Scotia Private Client Group, adds that one of the reasons POA abuse is rampant is because it’s happening in the shadows. No one is watching or supervising the POA’s actions. She says lawyers who specialize in this area have begun beefing up their documents to provide more protection for the clients. Our current system of powers of attorney is based on an honour system, which really only works for the people who are honourable. Unfortunately, there are too many people who are not.
Should I add my adult child(ren) to the title of my real estate? An excellent answer to one of the most frequent questions my clients ask when creating an estate plan.
I love a good, wacky court case. Court heard the shooting happened when Bergh unaware his handgun was loaded ran the barrel up and down his girlfriend’s right side, back and buttocks before it accidentally fired.
I spent some time yesterday wandering through the show. So much creative talent in the Valley. It’s on until May 12.
A great Q & A with lawyer Constance Backhouse about Viola Davis. They called the theatre manager, who called the local police, and a police officer came in and the two menwhite, burly mendragged her out of the theatre. In the scuffle, she lost her purse and a shoe, and they dragged her off to jail, they locked her up and she spent the night in jail.
Would you want to know? Justice Mary V. Newbury wrote in the decision that Wang could not have known that the home buyer, Feng Yun Shao, would have any sensitivity to the killing of her son-in-law, Raymond Huang, in 2007 and that that did not alter the quality of the home or its usefulness.
This is such great news. Did you know that all the interest generated from lawyers’ trust accounts is forwarded to the Law Foundation which then funds projects like this throughout B.C.
I love this contest. Last year I watched Ecole North Oyster School in Ladysmith win $100,000. And I believe that installation was completed last week. I’m hoping another school in the Cowichan Valley will enter this year.
David Eby promoting Make a Will Week. It’s always good to hear clients say how relieved they are once they’ve got an estate plan in place.
