The wonderful experience of playing a really complex cooperative scenario with a companion can form the basis of learning to see each other as allies again; taking turns and seeing value in each other’s contributions. It can also form the backbone of a new bonding ritual you can share. Couples so often complain that they have nothing in common, like it was supposed to happen magically. Bonding rituals are built, as are connections through compromise and effort, by working together. They are also maintained through effort and sacrifice. Keep in mind that with all things its easier to maintain something than it is to rebuild.

Posted @withregram @razeltalkstabletop SEQUOIA When Board Game Tables announced this Kickstarter they billed Sequoia as "Can't Stop meets Las Vegas". I was instantly intrigued--i love both those games! Sequoia is a quick area control game. You roll 5 dice and make 2 pairs, then place a piece in the squares that represent those sums. At the end of the game, the player with the most pieces on each square wins the higher value token. The second highest player wins the lower va...lue token. If players tie, another round is played but this time you can only place on the contested squares if you were in contention for winning that spot. The game ends when all squares are won. Most points wins. Another great game for playing remotely as long as someone can have their camera over the table. However it can get difficult to tell how many pieces there are on each spot; people might have to make notes. In person this isn't an issue, you can look at the height of each stack to tell who has more bits. Comparison to Las Vegas and Can't Stop are apt... In a way. The Can't Stop piece comes from choosing your dice combinations. The Las Vegas piece is in deciding how hard you want to fight for control of the squares. This game can play up to 5 players so I'm sure that can get chaotic! At 3 players i found that often people would end up in head to head battles for specific squares. There aren't that many points to be had so those battles can get fierce! I miss the push your luck aspect of Can't Stop where you keep rolling and risking a bust... I think that's exciting. Is the game greater than the sum of its parts? Hard to say yet, i think I'd want to play more. Like with most area control games i think I'd want more players. Production is good, i appreciate the size of the box... I do wish player shields could've been included as rolls need to be revealed simultaneously. However, the photo can be misleading, these dice are small! I guess you could hide them behind your other hand. So far pretty pleased with this one and look forward to playing it in person with more people! #sequoiaboardgame #boardgametables
