Here’s my new novel, a strangely familiar pandemic tale (written before COVID). Available on Amazon and at the St. John’s Farmer’s Market tomorrow (Sat. Aug. 22). The book is an adventure story, political satire and retelling oh Homer’s Odyssey.

Here's a short reading from my unpublished pandemic novel "Out of the Mainland".

Way back in 2019, I wrote a novel about a pandemic and its effects on Newfoundland and the rest of the world. The disease in the novel was quite a bit different... than the one we are experiencing. The virus in my book was a filovirus. Viruses in this family include Ebola and Marburg and the mortality of these agents can be as high as 90% compared to the 1-3% rate estimated for COVID-19. In the book, Newfoundland completely isolates and faces the very different and serious problems of separation from the mainland (sorry if that's a spoiler). Life is challenging right now, but not nearly as bad as it could be. I hope you get to read the book some day. In the picture I'm reading the manuscript to Charlotte. The one thing I didn't anticipate was the run on toilet paper. Charlotte claims she can't even understand the concept. See more
