A few families came by this weekend- it was lovely to see people enjoy! There are patches of flowers blooming which already make for great pics. There are twe...lve+ acres of flowers planted from these gates on, to give a sense of scale. Mid- to late- week is sure to be amazing!! We have no set entrance fee. We’re a one-income family of seven running an animal sanctuary and ask that in return for visiting our field and taking photos with the flowers, people leave a donation to support the costs to care for the rescued animals. Plse see Www.sultanfarmsanctuary.com under the tab Sunflowers for more info. Thank you for the interest!

Today at precisely 5:43 PM we welcome the summer solstice - the official arrival of the summer season! "The reason we have solstices, and seasons, is because... the Earth doesn’t orbit the sun completely upright. Instead, our planet is tilted on its axis about 23.5 degrees, which means one hemisphere receives more direct sunlight than the other at different times of year. On the June solstice, the Northern Hemisphere leans most toward the sun, giving us the most intense sunlight and longest day of the year." - Justin Grieser, Washington Post After today, the days will start to get shorter again - which isn't bad news if you like having campfires, watching Fireflies or stargazing before 10 PM! What kinds outdoor fun do you plan on having to celebrate the arrival of summer today? #StepIntoNatureAtHome #OutdoorEducation

SECOND UPDATE: (Tuesday, June 16 @ 11:30 a.m.) Thank you again to all who have ordered. A reminder that this is not a commercial operation, but only one person ...trying to sell our excess plants while working full-time. Most plants have been sold. People should have received an email back by now, either to pick up your plants or to mention that what you wanted was sold out. If you have slipped through the cracks, please send another email explaining that you have not heard back. So far over 350 plants have been sold and over 48 orders processed. There are limited remaining plants that will be offered to those who have already expressed interest. The intent is to respond to every enquiry, whether or not plants meeting your interest were available or not, so you should have received a contact message if you sent an email. If there are any further updates I will post them here. Cheers, and thanks for your patience and understanding. ! (1 for $2.00, 3 for $5.00, or 7 for $10.00) Hello all members and fellow gardeners... While the Stittsville-Goulbourn Horticultural Society is not having an official plant sale this year because of the current pandemic, we do have over 300 plants that are taking up backyard space that need to be cleared out! These are plants that have been donated by society members, so beginner gardenersyou know they will grow in suburban gardens in Ottawa and the surrounding area. Below is a list of plants that are available for pick-up, along with links you can follow to find out about the species of plant on offer. Check often to see what is available since more contributions will appear as members cull their gardens. Plant sizes will vary from small, medium, and large plants depending on species and availability. One plant for $2.00, three plants for $5.00 and seven plants for $10.00. Plants can be purchased by email (see ordering directions at bottom of post) and picked up at the curb locally in Stittsville; pickup address will be provided when your order is emailed. Sorry - no drop-ins. To ensure social distancing and for everyone’s convenience, payment is by email transfer only, with a cheque accepted if you are absolutely unable to use this method. Here is how to order, along with the plant list. (First come, first serve basis): Email Arlene at [email protected] indicating the type and number of plants that you want, and you will receive an email back arranging for e-transfer payment and curb-side pick-up. Plants are available as of May 31 and will continue to be available until all plants are sold. If you need advice or have questions about a particular plant on the list, feel free to use this email address. Arlene will be glad to help you, and if she can't, she has access to the society's master gardeners to pass on their wisdom. If the plant(s) you are interested in are sold out upon receipt of your email, a brief return email will be sent to let you know they are no longer available. Otherwise, expect an email with directions for payment and where to go to pick-up. It’s my favourite time of year in Crossing Bridge Estates, Stittsville. I bet our blossoms will get more walk-by viewing than ever before, it being pandemic days and all. I’m trying to find my favourite tree in the hood. Feel free to cast a vote and send me an address! ... And if you have a flowering tree: put some picnic blankets down, pour a drink, eat some food, and talk with your people. Play some music, tell some stories, take a whack of selfies and photos of others. Create a super long banquet table, hang white lights, and set the table beautifully. (If you do, please send me a photo)
