So nice to visit my friend Kathy Zipp at Zipp's Farm where our lovely lambs spend the summer eating orchard grass! I was so happy to be able to pick up some beauty tomato plants (sweet millions, beefsteak, and Roma) and she has lots more!!! Pop over to her page to book an appt to go get your tomato plants (she’s on Corcan just at the meadow wood turn off!!)

Ok chickens are back and try as I might we can not eat all the eggs they are making. The boys have been collecting the eggs, and so we are selling the extras for the boys to get their farm chore allowance. I have a farm stand set up on qualicum rd - if it goes well I will post when I have beautiful organic fed and free range happy chicken eggs (with the most golden and delicious yolks!) ... $7 a dozen. If the stand gets ripped off I will switch to by appt pick ups.

I have two beautiful Katahdin rams, I’d rather see go for breeding on a new farm rather than eat. If interested let me know through PM. One is naturally polled and the other has a good looking set like like his sire! Mellow breed, good meat, easy to raise and hardy. PM me if interested.

This is bullshit. A hard working family, adding value to the community and raising their young family. Bent backwards and forwards - tried to initiate positive changes to the ALR to make it more progressive and reflective of how this generation of farmers wants to find balance and build community on their land. Between VIHA and ALR the lack of access to abattoirs and local butchers to wholesale meat and environmental trolls the future of farming and small family business are doomed.

So much truth here. When we planned to move to the island and start the farm, I was able to connect and create a network of like minded farm friends, and that network became my sales network for the heritage breeds that I so carefully selected for temperament, hardiness, and independence. Good breeds for small homesteads where the farmers are not super experienced, and a good balance of meat/easy keepers/historically good breeds for health. It went well for the first year a...nd a bit of acquiring my breed stock, then selling the off spring with one or two held back for my own freezers. Then one day, posts were flagged and banned, and like that the entire sales network was banned. I was left with animals to sell which I couldn’t, so was forced to raise for meat (never what my farm set up was for), had to go to farm gate sales which became disruptive and trolled by vegans so I no longer wanted to sell anything or allow people near the farm where I raise my children. And no plausible outlets for sales of the meat into commercial streams without selling at a significant loss. So here I now sit, the farm is a finacial drain, the supply chain isn’t accommodating, and my freezers are full of product that was supposed to go in to a value added production process that fell through because they didn’t care. Years of my life to raise these animals and lives given up and wasted, because they changed their minds or couldn’t be bothered anymore.... This cost me thousands and broke my heart and spirit for it all. Heritage breeds need little to no intervention to raise and a little more time but people are so used to sales, discounts and Costco meat, I can not be bothered to have to explain what meat is supposed to be like, have my farm and my animals judged, when people go to the store and don’t give a second thought or one fuck as to what the meat they buy is for breed, feed, lifestyle, slaughter, or the families it has supported... thanks for breaking the backs and spirits of farmers like me Facebook, and for stores to create unrealistic price points for whole (not processed foods) from local farmers, but sell large production for far away places sooo cheap.... I do grow more and more disillusioned with our supply chain model, and am even more grateful for the lifestyle we chose for our family.

Whole or sides of Lamb - Custom cut and wrap to your preference. 8.50/lb on the hanging weight. I have three Katahdin sheep going in. Last years New Year’s Day babies. ... Beautiful Pastured and the best lamb I have eaten. (I typically take mine in at 18mo, as I like a bigger size, but got an earlier butcher date). These are a medium size sheep, and will dress out nicely. Pm if interested, I will eat them all myself if I don’t sell them!

Mmmm, bacon fest. First batch from these boars. The smell is heavenly, and the best part is when I am done cooking it there will be just as much volume of bacon in the pan! No shrinkage (but also an amazing amount of rendered fatty goodness for Christmas cooking!) If you’re interested my pork is ... $16/lb for roasts and steaks $19/pkg (approx 1lb) for bacon. Pm for an appt if you’d like to purchase some.

In case you were wondering, this is what heritage breed slow growth pork looks like before being cooked. Pork is not a ‘white’ meat. It is a beautiful full flavored, densely textured piece of heaven. And for my trolling friends, I will enjoy eating these steaks, I raised them from babies, I look after their parents, they play and fight and are intelligent yes. I know what I feed them, how they were raised, how they benefit the ecosystem on my farm, and the family that butch...ers and wraps them. I know the families I share this with, and just how far I can make one animal go to feed my family. I have Neighbour a that drop off yard waste, tonnes of fruit and vegetables that may otherwise end up in a landfill.... I know how they help to provide a small sustainable and balanced part of the local food supply chain. What do you know about your food...

Haven’t posted in a long time, and really pissed off to be posting now. I don’t have a tractor or anything else to haul stuff around my farm. I do it by hand. I am proud of that. So to the asshole who kindly cut the lock (which wasn’t attached) and stole my heavy duty four wheeled yellow wagon, all the apples and the tote that was in it. F@Ck YOU. This is why I don’t do gate sales either. Self entitled shittwits who don’t care about the people impacted by you’re thefts, ...littering, and otherwise thoughtless actions. Should have left the wagon in yesterday. On another note, thank you to all the wonderful people who have provided so many wonderful treats (apples and pumpkins) to me.
