Yesterday I finished the second eight pointed star and was on my way to completing the third when I realized I made a mistake in the foundation of the center motif. I screwed up the weave so it will have to come out for a redo. @texturedtreasures just a suggestion, if it's not possible to put the instructions for the interlaced Maltese cross on the same page as the diagram for 1-3 because of lack of space, it would be helpful if the diagram was gridded. At least for the found...ation stitch. I found myself constantly flipping back and fourth as I needed to follow the pattern but also count out where my needle needed to come out. I spent all day working on Hiogi and all I have to show for it is the left side of the green leaf I attempted to work on the silver cherry blossoms but it wasn't working. I think it's been too long since I've stitched on it and I'm out of practice. The first eight pointed stars is sort of done. The center is supposed to be filled with French knots. The one time I filled an area with French knots in canvas work did not go well. I really didn't like how they looked. I've started the first 8-pointed star. There are 10 different threads used in just this shape, not forgetting the beads. So far I've only used two fibers and both required reaching for some tools to help with the stitching. The kreinik ribbon is hard to pull through even with a no 22 needle. To help I'm using an even bigger needle to enlarge the hole. I normally use this needle for finishing off ends when crocheting with wool yarn. The second tool is a needle trolley. I use it much the same way I use a tekobari to lay thread nice and flat. I've been having trouble with the Rainbow Gallery knitted ribbon. My needle kept shredding it as I pulled the needle out. My leaf the dark green is a little iffy around the middle but that part will be covered by the beetle (Just realized I forgot to stitch some dark green on the leaf at the top) Now I need to decide if I want to put in the veins or leave them like that.... Here's how far I got before I lost my good lighting. The plan is to stitch the entire leaf, even the part that has the beetle on it. Still have to figure out how I want to handle the darker part of the leaf, but once it's done I'll be using a transfer technique I learned in Japanese embroidery to put the beetle design back on.
