Distress Centre enters the new millennium! In 2000 we officially shortened our name to Distress Centre, and made the move to Suite 300, 1010 8th Ave SW, a location we only left in February of this year. A new Men's Line, previously called the Men's Domestic Conflict Line began responding to men experiencing a wider range of issues than domestic violence. Barb Litchinsky was our Executive Director as we celebrated our 30th Anniversary. Tagline: Helping People In Crisis In 2...000 we had: - $1,175,000 in funding - 135 Volunteers - 47,000 calls and 4600 counselling sessions, as well as public education and other outreach services See the video below for an idea of what answering the call for help sounded like in the 2000s. 50 Stories on the 2000s: https://www.distresscentre.com//50-stories-part-32-social/ https://www.distresscentre.com//50-stories-part-34-why-we/ https://www.distresscentre.com//50-stories-part-37-just-t/
It's normal if you're a Canadian feeling stressed about the US election today. The outcome affects us too. Don't let anyone invalidate what you're feeling.
