Look at these two cuties looking all adorable in their masks! They loved them! Just kidding.. masks can be annoying to wear for prolonged periods of time, make it harder to breathe, and now that it’s summer, they just feel downright too hot to wear. But these sweet little angels understand their purpose and why we are using them. They understand it’s not just about us and our well-being, it’s for everyone ... Stay safe and healthy friends! And remember, wear your mask when you come and visit Hands on Health!

Hey everyone! I started this Instagram account as a resource guide for information, inspiration or just to laugh (yes I may post a joke here and there too ) First off, it’s Naturopathic Medicine weeks so I wanted to start off by briefly explaining what naturopathic medicine is, what naturopathic doctors (NDs) do and what to expect if you decide to see one.... To put it simply, Naturopathic Medicine (NM) uses natural therapies as treatment. What do I mean by natural therapies? I mean herbs, supplements, acupuncture, lifestyle and dietary counselling to help you feel better. There are many other treatment modalities as well, these are just the most common ones. NM shines in regards to preventative medicine and chronic case management. Now I’m sure you or someone you know have said something along the lines of, Yes I went for bloodwork and everything is fine, but for some reason I still have no energy. I wake up tired even if I sleep for 8 hours and I’m achy even though I’m not sick. This. This right here is where NM shines. The subtleties of chronic disease in the making can be helped by using preventative medicine- which is what NDs do best. One thing you will notice is how much time your naturopathic doctor spends with you. NDs have the luxury of spending more time with their patients (an initial appointment is about 90 minutes!) so you can provide a good thorough history of what’s going on, we can gather more detailed information, and then we collectively come up with a treatment plan that is right for you. You’ll hear NDs talk about treating the whole body. Keeping with the example above, this means when you come in for an appointment I don’t want to just hear about your low energy, crappy sleep and sore joints. I want to know about your stress level and if you’re managing okay. I want to know what your schedule usually looks like, what you eat, what you drink, and what your poop looks like (that’s not a typo!), among other things. I want to know what’s going on in all areas of your life so that I can help you feel and stay better, not just feel ‘okay’ or ‘fine’. So for anyone who has questions, let me know All the best, Dr. Tash, ND

As the country/province moves toward reopening, masks are assuredly part of our future. And in some ways, their evolution is the perfect encapsulation of how mu...ch life has changed in a blink of an eye and how challenging, both intellectually and emotionally, it will be for us to go forward. The Chief Public Health Officer of Canada and head of the Public Health Agency of Canada, Dr. Theresa Tam, advised everyone to wear a mask in public. The best thing you can do to prevent spreading COVID-19 is to wash your hands frequently with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds. If none is available, use hand sanitizer with a minimum of 60% alcohol base. Wearing a homemade non-medical mask/facial covering in the community is recommended for periods of time when it is not possible to consistently maintain a 2-metre physical distance from others, particularly in crowded public settings, such as: * stores * shopping areas * public transportation * Doctor’s offices Wearing a mask alone will prevent the spread of COVID-19. You must consistently and strictly adhere to good hygiene and public health measures, including frequent hand washing and physical (social) distancing. - When worn properly, a person wearing a non-medical mask or face covering can reduce the spread of his or her own infectious respiratory droplets. Non-medical face masks or face coverings should: * allow for easy breathing * fit securely to the head with ties or ear loops * maintain their shape after washing and drying * be changed as soon as possible if damp or dirty * be comfortable and not require frequent adjustment * be made of at least 2 layers of tightly woven material fabric (such as cotton or linen) * be large enough to completely and comfortably cover the nose and mouth without gaping. While the office isn’t open for regular visits yet, Dr. Natasha and I are preparing the office to welcome patients back when we do get that clearance from the... government. We have been prepping signage, working on procedures and organizing things (such as PPE) to keep us safe and our patients safe as well. As you can see from this picture, we even are making some masks just in case patients forget to bring their masks to the office. We both will contact patients and let eveyone know the procedures at the office once we do open. Lastly, we both hopefully will be able to see patients sometime soon in the near future. if you forget a mask, we've got you covered. NOTE: As practitioners, we will be wearing ASTM LEVEL 1 masks as recommended and not the masks in this picture. Dr. Reena Pathak, DC Dr. Natasha Gasparin, ND See more

Dear Hands On Health Patients, As we continue to monitor the development of the COVID-19 nationally and locally, it is important to keep you abreast of how this... information impacts aspects of our multidisciplinary office as we try to maintain a safe, sterile environment for you and your family. We are routinely sterilizing our public office areas and our treatment areas as usual, but ask that you reschedule your appointment if you develop any symptoms associated with the emerging Coronavirus(cold/flu-like, respiratory). We will waive cancellation fees. It is our intent to monitor and follow the recommendations set forth by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and our local public health department and recommendations to help us determine to remain proactive as the extent of COVID-19 evolves.
